“White lion Overnight”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

Stayed overnight at the White Lion for a night out in Tenterden. Did not use the food, but this did look quite good. did have breakfast and this was very good. Stayed in a double room at the top of the Old building. Quite a few creaks and groans from the staircase. The shower was next to useless, and th bed was only a 4' 6", so a little on the small side, as used to a 6' at home. Room was also very warm at night, even with the window open.

Room Tip: The 4 poster room is better.

Stayed here on a Saturday night celebrating friends wedding anniversary. Situated right in the heart of the lovely town of Tenterden, and a short walk to the Steam railway. Rooms lovely (although very creaky floors, but that just added to the character), we had a huge room that even had a 6 seater dining room table in it! Staff very friendly and helpful. We had lunch in the bar, huge 'doorstep' sandwiches and we shared a platter in the evening. Full English breakfast was huge along with cereals and fruit. Would definately stay again and recommend to others.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have huge sash windows and a view of the village (we stayed in Room 6)

It was my wife and I's first experience of a b&b in England when we pulled up wow such an old building it was a great experience the rooms were clean and the staff went beyond what you would expect we we're desperate to do our laundry but with no facilities to do it one of the staff offered to take it home and wash and dry our cloths for us we really appreciated it and the area around Kent was brilliant .

The White Lion was perfectly located in the middle of this pretty town with car parking to the rear. It was spotlessly clean throughout, staff were helpful and friendly, the wide ranging menu was beautifully cooked, and the cellarage excellent. We were really pleased with our choice and because of the main attractions in this part of Kent, we are already thinking of going back.

Room Tip: If you are tall, ask for a higher ceiling. I didn't see one, but was told a couple of rooms have...

We stayed 5 nights at this pub/hotel and will be back again. This is an old coaching inn. With it comes creaky floors, quirky rooms and a rabbit warren of corridors, all adding to its charm. If you book online you get 20% off food, but I booked directly as I wanted to have a choice of room (my husband and I are tall, and I'm not too good with stairs), but when I mentioned missing the discount I was given it anyway. We ate there four times so the discount was well worth it. Our room was at the front over the bar, but i checked that there were no functions before I booked, and the outdoor drinkers went home at closing time. We were not affected by noise at all.
When I showered soon after we arrived I found that the hairdryer was faulty. The staff could not have been more helpful. An instant solution was offered and a replacement arrived before breakfast the following morning. Fantastic service.
The bed was an iron-framed one. It was very firm but I use a mattress topper because of my poor hips and my husband didn't find it a problem. No hotel can please everyone, our needs are too diverse. I would rather have firm than soft, and rolling together all night.
We had a table and chairs in our room, it was so big. A sofa might have been more useful, but that's a small point. It made a good 'dumping place.' The bathroom was newly refurbished and the bedroom newly decorated. It was immaculate on arrival and continued to be so for the duration of our stay.
The breakfast was cooked to order, not kept warm. The manageress was very much in evidence. The evening meals were delicious, and we had something different every night; there were still many things we would have liked to try. I cannot understand the criticism that the menu was unchanging; there was so much choice and there were 'specials' too.
The staff were friendly and cheerful. No request was too much trouble.
There was a car park sign pointing through the arch to the back, and the parking machine made it very clear that parking was free for hotel residents. Were the previous reviewers simply not looking?
Tenterden is a lovely small town and makes a good centre for visiting houses, gardens and the coast.
Give this hotel a try. It is personal and friendly and felt like home from home.

Room Tip: Book personally by phone and discuss your needs, then mention the on-line discount for food and ask...

We kicked off our holiday in France by breaking our journey from the North via the nightmare that is the M25 with a stopover in this charming village. Who would believe that such a sleepy, chocolate box paradise could exist so close to such an overcrowded, overused abomination of a motorway guaranteed to spoil anyone's holiday. Do you get the impression that I'm slightly p***ed off with driving in this country? Anyway back to the hotel: great stay (though somewhat overpriced), great food and great live music on a Friday night though Saturday night's live entertainment is geared more to the younger element, so be warned. The only grumble being the soiled tatty carpet that covers the rickety stairs. Management take note: tatty, moth eaten carpets do not constitute character. Sooner or later someone is going to slip and or trip and that may well more than the cost of a new carpet.
