Visited this Hotel/restaurant on a Friday night with a couple of girlfriends for a glass of wine and supper. We decided t have a bar snack, after asking what the soup of the day and having the response shouted at us from the barman we ordered an alternative. This arrived and was so meagre it could not be classed as a snack let alone a starter...and was defiantly not worth the money.
The re-furb is very nice, and cannot comment on the al la carte menu, but bar food is overpriced, and the staff did not make us feel welcome and were rude.
We were also told that they stopped cooking at 9pm, menu stated that they served food until 9.30pm.

Was very impressed with the new look brasserie which has a 'Belgian' feel to it, there was also a lovely fire blazing which was more than welcome on a cold winters evening.
It's a shame that despite spending huge amounts of money on this hotel none was spent on staff training.
It took a long time to get the attention of the barman who seemed more intent on cleaning his glasses than attending to the needs of the customers. When he did eventually come over he was very surly to the point of insolent. The same man also tried to remove menus at 8.15 even though the menu itself states food is served until 9.30.
We did manage to order some food before the kitchen closed (early) however, as previously mentioned the portions are small.
I'd say go for a drink, there is a good, reasonably priced wine-list and the place looks good but there are definitely far better places to eat locally

We enjoyed a Friday lunch in the bar area. The bar was warm with a fire and has comfortable seating. The décor is interesting and not the" run of the mill" hotel bar that you might expect. . The staff were helpful and the service was quick. We thought the portion size was reasonable and the food tasty. We would definitely like to come back again.

We came here for dinner. Amazingly small portions. Waited 30 minutes for 2 small very thin slices of nice shop ham (less than in a sandwich) and some chips (it said home made thick cut ham on the menu) £7.95 for this and £10.95 for Veg Ravioli -both less than a kids portion. Do try the Crispin Inn opposite -we did even after eating at the Bell! Ate here 4 other evenings as well. Crispin Inn was always very popular. Next door Fisherman's Wharf worth a look. Also do try The George and Dragon for good food. The Admiral Owen next to Crispin Inn is worth a look -friendly ambience and atmosphere here.
We stayed at the Salutation which is fabulous...

A spontaneous lunchtime meal was chosen, purely for the location. We found seating outside no problem, expected it to be busy. A long wait for mediocre spinach risotto which had an equal share of green rice and white rice... surely they didn't dilute it down to go further? The steak sandwich special steak did not fit the sandwich and was fatty. We did not understand how the gravy was supposed to be used either.... To cap it all they charged us for table 14 while table 14 got our bill - possibly - oops. Shame. Better places to eat in this town...
