This cinema is a must , it is very old and in the interval they actually ' put the kettle on ' to make cups of tea / coffee . Great value , old fashioned and hope it never closes ...

The only place we will go to see a film.
A traditional cinema with a good atmosphere, friendly - real customer service.
Fantastic value.
Cant fault it, just love it.

It is rare today to be able to watch a film in a totally traditional cinema. The Empire will provide that experience. So don't expect all the mod cons of a 21st cinema. Just sit back & enjoy a latest film in Poirot like decadence.
Does the lady appear in the interval with the ice creams. You'll just have to visit & find out!

When you look at the Empire from outside you are immediately taken back to your childhood and queing on a Saturday morning to see the latest cartoons and serial pictures. Once inside the effect carries on and its not until the film starts due you remember you are now in modern times. Places like this should be well visited and preserved

I've been visiting Sandwich ever since I was little and the highlight is going to the Empire Cinema. Its in a cute art deco building right by Guildhall and is a completely different experience to the big expensive cinemas everywhere else. Its very small, with only 1 screen, with cute velvet red chairs and a big red curtain over the screen. It even has an intermission still! Its so cheap (between £2 to £4) and has a little tuck shop where you can buy snacks. Its a relaxing trip back in time and there is no comparison to the other cinemas where everything is extortionately expensive. It normally shows 2 films at a time with the new releases. I think it still uses film which just adds to the character of it all. I hope it never goes!
