“Arrive early for lunch”
Reviewed November 28, 2013

This central and fairly small café can fill up with locals soon after 12 noon but is worth making the effort to get a seat. One large table, the rest are twins or quads. There is a range of hot dishes, with the Christmas turkey roast special marked up 50p to £7. Others are content with toasted sandwiches and salad. There is usually a special desert, on this occasion apple crumble. A range of beverages and soft drink is available, but did not notice alcohol. They do not take credit cards. Service was immediate to explain the specials and was friendly to everyone. Anyone using the toilets will find them across a small back courtyard and a bit damp and cold in winter.

“small, traditional, nice”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

Popped into "The Haven" for a quick snack. Very busy but got seen to quickly and our choice of poached eggs on toast appeared very soon. Clean, small, traditional café straight "out of the sixties" style and food to match - the lunch menu on the blackboard however, showed that they offered a wider range of food outside of the usual café fayre, from noon onwards. Prices - not bad for somewhere in trendy Sandwich and everything was done with brio and a smile. I would go back if I was in this area again and needed some good value unfussy sustenance.

“Very friendly service, good simple food”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

A small cafe that doesn't look much from the outside, but serves tasty food at a very reasonable price. It was busy on the lunchtime we visited but service was quick and the food well prepared. Nice atmosphere and very friendly service.
