We live in eastern France and regularly drive to and from the UK. The Bell Hotel is our preferred stop over each way. We are a couple with 2 young boys and a baby daughter. We have stayed in all the family rooms that the hotel has to offer. Since the hotel was renovated a few years back, we have always been very pleased with the accommodation. Rooms are always very clean and invitingly presented with rich fabrics and comfortable beds and pillows. Bathrooms are white victorian style. In one of the family rooms we even had a basket with books and jigsaws which was a bonus. Another winning element of your stay at the Bell is the full english breakfast included in the room rate which is always delicious and freshly cooked. Furthermore the staff in the dining room are always very helpful and chatty and make us feel very welcome. They are also very accommodating towards our children and nothing is too much trouble. Once we accidentally left some coats in the wardrobe and the Bell posted them on to us without any problems. On the downside the hotel is not double glazed and we have had some nights without much sleep due to the noise of cars outside and the sound of the village church bells tolling on the hour throughout the night. One another occasion there was a wedding on and we heard the party music until about 1.30am, but we had been warned about this before we booked. Despite this we will be returning as we always have a nice time and it has become a home from home for us. Location is perfect for exploring Sandwich on foot and only a short drive to Sandwich bay beach, the sea, Canterbury for shopping and sightseeing and the Channel Tunnel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the quieter part of the hotel to avoid road noise at night.

The hotel gives an air of elegance and charm combined with modern stylishness in all its areas. It is spacious and allows you plenty of room to relax in the reception area, bar and dining room. Breakfast gives you a wide choice and the cooked selection always arrived piping hot. Service from the staff at breakfast was excellent, fast and polite, (a much missed commodity in this day and age!) The bedroom was spacious and the king size bed most comfortable. The en-suite bathroom had a very large bath and a good shower, plus plenty of towels, soaps, shampoo and other consumables you may need. The hotel location was ideal for my particular needs and affords you easy access to the town centre and river walks. All in all a most enjoyable, comfortable and relaxing stay. I would recommend The Bell to others without hesitation.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the top floor, a bit of a walk but quieter at night

My husband and I decided to close our doors this Christmas and instead of paying host to what has always felt like the entire world, we booked ourselves into The Bell Hotel, Sandwich from Christmas Eve for five nights. We took our two dogs. who were warmly welcomed by the staff when we arrived, and travelled down to the beautiful little town of Sandwich. What a gem of a place that is I have to say. We were given a lovely large room at the hotel, complete with large sofa and easy chairs. The bed was really comfortable and extremely large being Queen size and six foot across - lovely. We spent the next five days enjoying being looked after with delicious food and wine. We even had a couple of superb meals in our room - possibly one of the best fish and chip meals - so instead of feeling completely drained at the end of the Festive period we went back home feeling thoroughly refreshed. We enjoyed it so much we book for next year before leaving!

Room Tip: If you dont have dogs the Superior rooms overlooking the river both on the Ground Floor and Upper Fl...

My husband and I decided that this would be the ideal place to stay on our Wedding night, so we booked The Balcony Suite. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist and were shown to our suite. The suite was a nice size but was very bland. The walls were painted in a putty colour, this was nice, unfortunately the carpet was the same colour, as was the curtains, the bedding and the furniture, in fact even the artificial flowers were this colour! There were no pictures on the walls to break up the blandness. The whole suite was very clean, there was a digital radio and good size television, however the wardrobe was not full length The welcome pack did not contain a room service menu, so ordering would have been difficult as we didn't know what was available. Although the hotel were aware that it was our Wedding night, not even a congratulations card was there to greet us. The beverage tray was quite limited. In the bathroom the taps on the basin were loose and not labelled hot and cold. During the night we were woken by the rhythmic movement of the bed upstairs, which was very loud, perhaps we were not the only honeymoon couple! In the morning, next door switched their television on at 6.30 am, this was also very loud. This hotel needs soundproofing, or complimentary earplugs as standard! Our breakfast was also a bland experience, we were asked by a waitress what kind of toast and hot drinks we wanted, these arrived and by the time our cooked breakfast was only half eaten, both toast and drinks were cold, and no sign of any staff to ask for more. A very disappointing stay.

We stayed here last year and enjoyed it so much, returned again this year!

The inclusive charge was excellent value and the attitude of the staff was faultless. Our room was large and comfortable and the catering was of a very high standard.

The hotel has some special offers, especially during the winter/spring. It is well worth keeping an eye on the hotel website.

Can strongly recommend this small and friendly hotel.

Room Tip: If there is a room with a river view available, it is worth the extra!!

On a recent visit to Sandwich we unexpectedly stumbled across the Bell Hotel... what a find! The Head Receptionist, Anita, was welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room (King Size) was a delight with very good, clean ensuite facilities with powerful shower and comfy bed. The breakfast was excellent with a great range of cold meats, cereals, fresh fruit salad and warm freshly baked pastries from the buffet, followed by a delicious cooked breakfast. Compliments to the Chef! Nicholas (Heat Waiter) was attentive and extremely professional. Having stayed in many hotels up and down the country, it really was a pleasure to stay at the Belll Hotel. Great rooms, great service, excellent breakfast but most of all, the staff really do deliver great customer service to a high professional standard, especially Anita and Nicholas. Many thanks Yvonne & John
