On the evening of Thursday 2nd August myself and Mrs. Electric finally managed to visit here. It was a day which we had dedicated to Thai food, having already visited a different Thai restaurant for lunch. It was a very enjoyable visit.
It is a very cosy and intimate place which is modest in size, and falls comfortably into the restaurant category. Malcolm made us feel very welcome and we were able to choose a table which would avoid the evening sun. The decor is very tasteful and there is a combination of Thai and Balinese artefacts and even a Russian painting. We found the location of the place very easy to find and were soon settled in. This is another BYO alcohol establishment but soft drinks were fine as I was driving.
The food was delicious. I had one of the Thai soups (the much sampled Tom Yum Goong) for starters and Mrs. Electric had Mai's Thai sausages which have a real kick to them.
The mains were a duck curry for me and Mrs.Electric had a prawn, scallop and squid stir fry which she was very pleased with. The scallops were of a generous size too (sourced locally in Ramsgate).

The prices here are higher than some of the competition but are still reasonable. And the music playing in the background was literally most of our music collection being played in public.
All in all a very good experience and well worth returning for.

There have been one or two reviews on Tripadvisor about which restaurant has the most authentic food in this area. The truth is, they are both authentic. Simples. And really the visitors to both places should be very pleased to have two such quality eateries in this area to choose from.

Thank you very much for a most enjoyable evening. Well done.

This restuarant has enjoyed a number of locations over the last decade and from the off myself and my family have really enjoyed them. Malcolm and Mai's hospitality is refreshingly authentic giving the experience a fourth allmost magical experience. This latest incarnation in Cliftonville suits them down to the ground, small but perfectly formed and delightfully intimate.
I've eaten just about everything on the menu and there's nothing I haven't liked. The biggest challenge are the sausages, each a tiny cannon ball of heat. One of the best and most popular dishes is Mai's very own invention of Mango Lamb, stunning. There's plenty of fish specials, plus the usual fair but everything is also available with tofu for the vegetarians. There's no alcohol licence so you can take your own drink to suit.

This was our first visit to The Bangkok Thai and I'll be going back.
It's a quirky little place, down a side street and I only heard about the place through Tripadvisor, but because of the high score I thought we'd give a whirl.
It's lovely, the food is great and the BYO makes it a win, win!

Second visit. Great traditional Thai restaurant, very small so you need to book though. Fantastic food, from the very talented Thai chef. Friendly and attentive service, cant wait to go again.
