Dear Abbie

I would like to thank you and all your staff, on behalf of us all at Pett Bowls Club, for the lovely time we had with you last weekend. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, as always. Please convey our compliments to your new chef. The food was very good, a vast improvement on last year. Once again all you staff were very kind and helpful - an asset to you.

All the very best to you all at Smiths Court for a Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.

With kind regards,

Elsie Wilding

We stayed at the Smiths Court for one night a few days back. We payed the small amount extra for a sea view and were very pleased we did. The room was fantastic with a great view. Very large room, exceptionally comfy bed, big TV, sofa & chairs, and even a kitchen that we thought was a wardrobe!

I enjoyed the breakfast next the morning, although my other half wasn't as keen. Both went for the full English, did the job for me.

Also, the staff were very friendly upon arrival and at breakfast, nice to be greeted so warmly.

We were in Margate for a gig at the Winter Gardens, and the hotel was only a 15 minute walk to the venue which was ideal.

So why three stars? Well, at 4.40am the fire alarm went off! We rushed out of the room as quickly as possible, but after 30 seconds the alarm stopped. We thought it best to go down to reception anyway to make sure, where we were told by the night porter that the smoke detectors are a bit temperamental and he was taking something out of the oven!

The next morning the warm welcome at reception had disappeared, I imagine through the lady having a morning of people moaning! We didn't get asked how we slept :)

As good as the room/hotel/location was, the main thing we were looking for was a good night's sleep, which unfortunately we didn't get due to the alarm and the adrenaline pumping as a result!!

I'd happily come back and stay at the Smiths Court....as long as they get some less temperamental smoke detectors!

Room Tip: Pay the bit extra and have the sea view

Thank you for your review of the hotel. We are delighted that you enjoyed the sea-view room, the breakfast and the proximity to the Winter Gardens.

We can only apologise that you were woken by the fire alarm during your stay. Unfortunately the oven was left on a too-high heat, which burned what was left slow-cooking inside. At 4.40am, the Night Porter went to open the oven and was greeted by thick smoke, which triggered the fire alarm. Although we apologise that this woke you, it was due to a genuine incident in the hotel. This information should have been passed on to you at the time, and the next morning, and we are sorry that this didn't happen.

We would welcome you back again any time, and hope that you come back to see us soon.

Thank you for your lovely review of the hotel and The Orangery restaurant. We are glad you enjoyed the sea-view room, and found our staff friendly and helpful.

We are especially thankful that you describe our breakfast as 'out of this world'. We try hard to provide a great breakfast, and are glad that you found this to be the case.

Whenever you are back in Margate we would be delighted to welcome you back to stay with us.

I spent the evening in this hotel with my 5 month old grandson, while his parents were at a gig in the Winter Gardens.

The staff were understanding and patient over the way that I took my evening meal, including allowing for me to take a break in the middle of the meal to drop my daughter off at the event, and in dealing with my food allergy.

I was particularly grateful to the staff member who took my baby grandson away without me asking, and pushed him round in his buggy until he was asleep. Without their help, I am not sure that the evening would have been such a success, and my daughter and her partner were extremely grateful as well, since this was the first time they had managed an evening out without being called back to feed the baby!

I will certainly recommend the hotel to my friends, and will visit again next time we come to Margate!

Stayed one night in order to attend a function at the hotel. On arrival we were directed to a freezing cold downstairs room. After some insistence on our part a dirty and dangerous portable radiator was brought to the room and the fixed wall heater switched on. Just as we left the room it had warmed up and we were surprised on returning from the function to find the fixed heating was again off. A cold night followed. In the morning there was no-one at reception who could deal with our complaint so we left a mobile number before checking out. No call was received that day so we called again the next day - still no-one available but an assuurance was given that we would be called back. Three weeks later and still no call. This lack of service makes it hard to recommend this hotel that could be at least reasonable with a bit more attention to detail.Good points - clean linen; ample hot water; good position, good thick curtains ( well tested by a strong northerly gale!).

Room Tip: Ring 4 hours before arrival and ask the staff to check that the room heater is on especially if you...

Thank you for your review of the hotel. We are very sorry that your room wasn't as warm as expected, and that you didn't receive a reply from us sooner in relation to your complaint. We have raised the issues with the staff responsible to ensure that this doesn't happen in the future. We hope that you are subsequently happy with the resolution that we have offered you.

We are happy that you enjoyed the cleanliness of the linen, and that you found our position good, and we hope to welcome you back (to a warmer room) soon!

Although this property was dated, our room was clean with a comfortable queen size bed. We had a lovely sea view room. Bathroom was also dated but clean and showers were hot. Staff were helpful and friendly on arrival. The breakfast was of a good standard
