My husband and I stayed here for two nights before and after cycling the Viking Coastal Trail in Kent. It's such a nice hotel! Lovely decor, really clean, friendly and helpful staff. The roof terrace is nice too, lovely views of the beach (apart from the dirty great tower block), and the food is very nice. If I came back to Margate I'd definitely stay here again.

I'm still slightly amazed that a hotel of this quality exists in Margate, but it does, and the town and its visitors should be thankful! We booked one of the top floor rooms, which have a small balcony and a sea view. Yes they are pricy, but the view is glorious (the three top floor rooms are small, as are the balconies - and the outside spaces are very close together. We were lucky with our neighbours, apart from the smoke that drifted out way a few times) and sitting outside was sheltered and lovely. There is also a rooftop space for all guests and that was delightful. The room itself was small but high quality, with an excellent bed and good pillows. The bathroom was top-notch and the whole of it was scrupulously clean.

The only downside was that the flatscreen's back light kept turning itself on in the night, illuminating the room. Next time I will turn it off at the wall!

Breakfast was disappointing. Perfectly good, but not interesting. I found a piece of what seemed to be glass in mine. This possibly affected how I felt about the food!

There is no immediate parking, but they give you a voucher (costing a fiver!) to leave your car in a council car park. Finding the car park is tricky.

Underneath the hotel is the hotel's own ice cream parlour, Melt, and it is great. Next time we intend on having breakfast there - the waffles looked delicious.

Room Tip: Make sure you know where the car park is - the map the hotel provides isn't that helpful to some...

The venue is top quality, the staff very professional at their job and the decor like a scene from the Titanic with crystal everywhere, except the only ice you will see will be in your gin and tonic.

The menu itself was not impressive as I had hoped after reading the one outside, believing that it was condensed, however when I did ask the staff do you have a larger menu I could see, immediately they were happy to oblige and brought me over a menu twice the size, but with the same things on it.

On that occasion I could not eat there as I didn't want to appear rude for being unable to stop myself from laughing and we ate across the road at a steak house.

Room Tip: I never stayed in a room there as was full, however the people I spoke to who have all said the upst...

This hotel has a brilliant location and has been wonderfully refurbished with some great finishing touches such as free wifi complimentary tea coffee water orange biscuits and crisps . Bathrooms are amazing some with huge baths and shower rooms . The seaview terrace is wonderful to enjoy at any time but particular on a warm evening with a cold glass if wine. Staff are so friendly and helpful even allowing me in my room early and having it specially cleaned as I felt a little unwell. I will definitely be returning but next time just for leisure .

Had a great anniversary weekend at the Sands in Margate. It was a late booking so we didn't get a seaside room but that didn't matter. We were on the town side on the 3rd floor for two nights. Room was very comfortable and well appointed. The fridge was missing for some reason, but the hotel sent up chilled water for us, and also chilled our bottle of cava which they sen up when we asked in an ice bucket. The bed was so comfortable and the room very quiet, despite being over the road, and the hotel full.

We arrived early for check-in but the staff took our bags while we went for a walk. Spent the afternoon in and out of vintage shops in the Old Town. We enjoyed an excellent cream tea in the hotel overlooking the sands. Then out again for a while. We'd booked an evening meal in restaurant which was very good, and got talking to a fellow diner. We were the last to leave the restaurant and then went next door to a bar that had a Latin night, also with a terrace over looking the sea and I had a dance. As they were only licensed til midnight, we did try a couple of other places, but everything was shutting up...Margate on a Friday night is not Brighton or even Hastings for that matter! But our hotel bar was very accommodating and served us til we realised it was suddenly very late and way past bedtime!

Fortified the next morning by an excellent breakfast, we set off for the Shell Grotto, located in a gritty part of Margate, but well worth the walk. Some guy tried to sell us his car en route. Then a lunch at the Fort cafe opposite the derelict Lido, and then on to the Turner Gallery, which was great. Then an ice cream from the hotel gelateria, and on to the Dreamland visitor centre to play on the vintage pinball. I love pinball.

We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks up on the hotel roof terrace. We couldn't get a table at Amrette which is meant to be a very good Indian restaurant, but ate at Mullins Bistro in the Old Town - Caribbean inspired food. Good but unfortunately long waits between courses, as they were short staffed.

Another great breakfast on Sunday, a look at the Mods and Rockers exhibit in the Town museum, and some of the local galleries before heading back home. Definitely will return to Margate and the Sands again.

One hotel request: a shelf in the shower would be good to rest shower gels etc.

We have just stayed at Sands Hotel with our two small daughters and had a really great time.

The outstanding features of the hotel are the fabulous and ever-changing views over the bay, out to sea and along the coast, the proximity to the increasingly vibrant historic heart of Margate and the hugely enthusiastic and personable staff. As well as by visitors the excellent and busy restaurant also seems to be well patronised by locals. The period (late nineteenth centry) building was saved from dereliction by the current owner and renovated to a high standard of comfort.

We stayed in a room on the second floor with sea views and a balcony. We had a comfortable and very spacious double bed and our daughters shared a fold-out sofa bed. There was plenty of room for all of us, and the bathroom was also sizeable and had a great shower and plenty of towels. The only caveat is that on a Saturday night the bar next door is quite noisy until midnight (which did not bother our daughters, who are too young to notice, and did not trouble us because we had been at a party ourselves) but something to bear in mind if you are coming expecting an early night.

Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice of hot and cold food, and we also enjoyed a relaxed and delicious family lunch after a walk along the beach and a trip to the Turner Gallery, which is no more than five minutes away.

We came to Margate without any particular expectations, and were very positively impressed by the hotel and the town itself. We can recommend both wholeheartedly and hope to return!

Room Tip: Sea view, obviously!

We booked to stay here fairly last minute as we wanted a night in Margate near the old town as we were visiting for the retro shops. The hotel staff, especially the bar man and the lovely lady on reception were really friendly and professional. We were very impressed with the hotel decor and the rooms. Lovely big bed, new bathroom, tv and lots of little extras to make it feel like a personal stay. We live in London, and have stayed in quite a few hotels and this is one of the best. My only critiscism is that the food in the restaurant is pricey - London pricey for a decent restaurant and the food really didn't warrant these prices. Will definitely come back though.
