We stayed here for two nights in a family suite consisting of one double and one single bedroom along with a generously sized bathroom. The hotel is like going into a time warp. Tea is served in China teapots with cups and saucers with no mugs in sight, it really was a pleasure. We usually stay in modern hotels and this was a refreshing change. Staff were helpful, polite and welcoming. Breakfast is more than adequate, well cooked and nicely presented. The exterior of the hotel is really pretty with seating on the terrace. An unusual selection of nick nacks to browse through in the museum on the second floor. Rooms were clean and all needs catered for. Would recommend this hotel for a short stay as you travel through Margate.

Anyone interested at all in period English history will love this 100-year-old Edwardian seaside gem, which doubles as a living museum filled with period artefacts & paraphernalia.
Also boasts beautiful sea views from your room balcony, a linen art gallery, downstairs snooker room and a restaurant menu that's as good value as the room tariffs.
Will definitely be back as only stayed one night, which wasn't enough to properly take in the atmosphericness. And will make sure my parents visit as I know they'll love it too.

Booked to stay here with another family couple as was seeing a band at Winter Gardens and the moment we pulled up until we left we were not disappointed. Such a beautiful entrance and terrace greets you then welcomed by the staff, all around with the museum there too we really didn't know where to look first and was amazed by the 1920s lift which we enjoyed travelling in!!
After a quick and friendly check in we went to our rooms, my sister had upgraded us to a suite and all can say was wow what a room (302) it was beautiful, still in the theme of the hotel (Edwardian) but an updated one, also every part of the room was cleaned to perfection we really could not find any fault! Breakfast was lovely, no cheap food here and very fresh served in a beautiful room. Staff extremely helpful from the check in, bar staff, cleaners, Breakfast staff and there checking guests were ok was the lovely owner who you can see takes such pride in what she does and really is the heart of this wonderful hotel. Such different people can stay here too, couples, friends and family all different ages its a place for all including your dogs too! Even the residents who live near by are welcoming and enjoy coming in for a drink at the bar. Had a lovely time here and know Margate isn't the place it use to be but where the hotel is it doesn't matter could come here again just to stay here. Thanks for a great weekend Walpole :)

Room Tip: Room with balcony is always lovely to sit out on

My wife and I had a lovely short break at this hotel. The location is great ,close to the sea and we had excellent views from the room. The staff were more than pleasant, they were helpful, attentive and fun.The hotel had real character, not only in the furnishings and fittings (including the 1927 lift and the artistic napkins) but in terms of the whole experience.
If there was one fly in the ointment it was that the shower was not very powerful, but that really is just a nit pick.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the sea

I stayed here for a weekend with my husband, mother and mother in law and we all really liked the place. The rooms were all good and so was the food. The Sunday lunch was especially good value. The staff were all incredibly helpful and really good with my mum who has limited mobility. We all enjoyed looking at all the memorabilia. I would recommend this place to anyone but especially those travelling with older friends or relatives. My mother in law brought her dog who was fully catered for and also really enjoyed her stay!!

Look at the website and you quickly realise that this is no ordinary hotel, but from the moment we arrived for a 5 night break we fell in love with it. Sterile and predictable it is most definitely NOT, nor is it for those who expect pristine perfection. Staying here is more like joining a house party with wonderfully attentive hosts and friendly, helpful staff. Our room was spacious and clean and decorated in 1920's(?) style with large old furniture, sash windows and a wooden balcony. The en-suite was large and clean and the bed comfortable. We had in fact been upgraded and when we asked why were told that the owner probably liked the sound of us on the telephone when we booked! Where else would the owner walk round at every meal and pass the time of day with each person? Where else would you step outside of your room into a museum? The self-service breakfasts were excellent and the smoked haddock the best I've ever tasted. We had dinner on two occasions in the Edwardian restaurant and both meals were excellent, with staff wandering out onto the verandah to escort us to our table when the first course was ready. An unforgetable experience and one which we hope to repeat in the future.

Room Tip: Look on the website at a photo of each unique room and make your choice.
