On a trip down from London, we called into this diamond of a pub, stillage for nine beers (three on, well it was Tuesday) and a dozen bag-in-box ciders. A drinkers' paradise, the Goachers Mild was stunningly good. If you are in Margate and like good beer/cider, this is the place to visit. Didn't try the food, so unable to comment on it.

A good experience and enjoyed a pint - would have been nice to have had another but unfortunately driving. Hard to choose with such a wide variety. Reminded me of many CAMRA pubs visited in the 70's with sawdust on the floor and casks of beer and cider piled high. Loved the till which showed prices in pounds, shillings and pence! Shame we had to pay in new money. This pub is in a nice area with a couple of very nice cafes and vintage shops in the vicinity too.

This establishment really is what it says, an ale and cider house. It doesn't sell lager, alcopops, or fancy cocktails, there are no video jukeboxes or video games machines, and it's all the better for it! What is on offer is a wide selection of ales and ciders, usually from small independent brewers and producers, often local, all of a very high standard, and kept really well. The only difficulty is trying to work out which ones you prefer, as they are all really good. I have not tried the food, but it looks to be really traditional, and of a VERY high standard.

This is a fabulous little place. Many beers to chose from, and nearly as many ciders including a mulled cider.

Very much family friendly.

The Life boat pub (to call it a restaurant is a vast over statement) was a surprising find in Margate but well worth looking out for. It had a vast selection of real ales and ciders (40+) a very limited menu and sawdust on the floor - what could be better? Margate is basically a hell hole not worth visiting except for a tiny enclave called the old town. Here there are a selection of pubs and restaurants that seem interrested in feeding you rather than poisoning you and the Life boat stood out as quaint and different. We had the mackerel (which was litterally a mackerel cut in half - really tasty but mind the bones), a suet pudding and cheese. In fact the cheese portions are so large they wrap up the uneaten cheese so you can take it home!
Service is knowledable but not polished but who cares about silver service as long as the staff are pasionate about the food they serve.
Be ware they dont take credit cards only cash.
