What a surprise! I had heard about the new art gallery and remembered from childhood the wonderful beach. But, the old town was a revelation. To be honest I was looking for fish and chips and found just about everything but, and that's good!

Presumably, not a lot that is very good has happened to the 'old town' since I was last there, so all the old shops and houses, alleyways and streets are still there. No major 70s developments, just everything left as it was and now gradually being revitalised by boutiques, galleries, gift shops, cafes junk/antique shops and pretty unaltered pubs.

I saw it all on a lovely sunny summer's day and was expecting a stream of chain stores so this may be a case of rose tinted specs but I don't really think so. Well worth investigating.

This is currently being developed again and is looking really lovely. There are lots of individual little shops to browse through and some fabulous little cafes - well worth a visit.

Spend an hour or 2 enjoying the boutique shops, galleries, eateries and bars before stepping out onto the vibrant seafront

Lots of restaurants and drinking houses which include real ale establishments. There is also Margate museum in the old town. It is early days but an up and coming area.
