What a surprise! I had heard about the new art gallery and remembered from childhood the wonderful beach. But, the old town was a revelation. To be honest I was looking for fish and chips and found just about everything but, and that's good!
Presumably, not a lot that is very good has happened to the 'old town' since I was last there, so all the old shops and houses, alleyways and streets are still there. No major 70s developments, just everything left as it was and now gradually being revitalised by boutiques, galleries, gift shops, cafes junk/antique shops and pretty unaltered pubs.
I saw it all on a lovely sunny summer's day and was expecting a stream of chain stores so this may be a case of rose tinted specs but I don't really think so. Well worth investigating.
