Owner description: Hever Castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the intriguing second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I. The castle is a romantic double moated 13th-century castle which houses historic 16th-century portraits, paintings, furniture, tapestries and treasures. Comprehensive information on the history of Hever Castle can be found in the guide book and audio tours are available from the Hever Shop, Visitor Centre or castle entrance. Visitors can explore the magnificent gardens for all seasons which include Italian, Rose and Tudor gardens, topiary, yew maze and splashing water maze, or take a stroll around the informal areas of Sunday Walk and Anne Boleyn's Walk. Hever hosts a number of special events throughout the season including gardening events with the head gardener and his team. Family fun includes jousting tournaments each summer, one of our most popular events.

Even though it was a cold and blustery October day we enjoyed the beautiful gardens surrounding Hever Castle. We took refuge during a rainstorm in the restaurant by the lake and were delighted with the assortment of cakes and goodies we had to choose from to go with our cup of tea. The castle has a fascinating history from the Boelyns down to the Astors. The portrait collection was impressive. We'd love to return in the spring when I'm sure the gardens are stunning!

Despite the fact that it always shocks me as to how much it costs nowadays to visit sites of interest, I would certainly say that it was worth the trip. My brother-in-law wanted to visit the castle as he is writing a book about Ann Boelyn and he was not disappointed by what he saw. The castle and grounds are breathtaking. The walk through the house is well planned and takes you from the earliest use of the house through to the last residents. The gardens are lovely and you could easily loose several hours walking around them. Be prepared for crowds during the summer, as it's a popular place. Cafe is nice, but pricey.

Fantastic grounds and castle, steeped in historical, easy to read, information.
Very popular with families (part of their Halloween weekend event).
Check available attractions for the time of your visit, as some close 'out of season'.
You could easily spend a full day here.

This castle was renovated at a cost of about 10 million pounds about 100 years ago and is still in excellent shape. It has great historical value due to the fact it was owned by the Boelyn family in the early 1500s. My wife and I spent almost 3 hours touring the castle and could have spent except for rain) a day or more touring the gardens.
