Owner description: Hever Castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the intriguing second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I. The castle is a romantic double moated 13th-century castle which houses historic 16th-century portraits, paintings, furniture, tapestries and treasures. Comprehensive information on the history of Hever Castle can be found in the guide book and audio tours are available from the Hever Shop, Visitor Centre or castle entrance. Visitors can explore the magnificent gardens for all seasons which include Italian, Rose and Tudor gardens, topiary, yew maze and splashing water maze, or take a stroll around the informal areas of Sunday Walk and Anne Boleyn's Walk. Hever hosts a number of special events throughout the season including gardening events with the head gardener and his team. Family fun includes jousting tournaments each summer, one of our most popular events.

Beautiful grounds and gardens, lovely (small) castle - we visited on the hottest day of the year (so far) and were in Ann Boleyn's house while the latest British royal prince was being born (seems appropriate). The water-walled walks under vines were cooling. The view of the lake from the loggia glorious. As for the water maze, the children were more than happy there. I could have done with a little more written historical information on the house but there was an audio guide that I did not take. Plenty to do for a few hours - it came at a price but I think probably worth it.

Such a beautiful place. Castle, gardens, grounds, lake and swans. The perfect place to get in touch with history and culture. Soak it up!

This is a great day out with the kids. Mine are 7 and 9 and they enjoyed the mazes, jousting (not all weekends) and the castle tour (which was fantastic accompanied by the iPod app)!

I arrived at Hever expecting to be overcome by the Anne Boleyn history and not much else. Instead I found the most charming small castle impeccably restored by the Astor family with remarkable care to its Tudor radiance. The gardens are simply spectacular. The roses were at their peak when I visited. The sculpture gardens and lake walks are also inspiring to any gardener. I came home wanting to rip everything from my own gardens and start fresh. The water maze is fun and messy. This is one of my favorite castles and definitely worth the trip.

When we arrived we went straight to the Water Maze to cool off. Then we went rowing which was fun. There are lots activities for adults and children(i.e. archery). Then we found are way to the playground where the tower maze can be located(at the end of the maze is a long slide). Then we walked through the gardens noticing the picturesque fountains. The shop is really good. Although the entry fee is expensive its worth it.
