Description: The King Henry VIII is a truly historic English pub, from its dramatic Tudor chimney stacks to its oak beams, open fires and panelled bars, all restored using traditional Tudor craftsmanship. The current building dates from 1647 but a pub has occupied the site since 1597.Opposite the entrance to Hever Castle, where Anne Boleyn spent her early years, this half-timbered and peg-tiled pub is a real gem. In summer the beautiful beer garden and pond make visits especially memorable and the roaring fires and polished wood panelling make it a welcoming and cosy place for colder months.Customers can expect excellent food in generous portions and a wide range of ales, beers & wines.

We visited last Saturday evening for a joint early Mother's Day meal and my husband's birthday celebration. We were so pleased that we chose the King Henry VIII! The food was excellent, as was the friendly service and our table beside the fire was very welcome on a cold evening!

We have already recommended it to friends and we will certainly be visiting again - can't wait!

This is an extremely picturesque pub which I have visited a number of times and have always enjoyed the surroundings. The food is excellent and last night I opted for the Steak and Ale pie which was delicious and full of tender steak without a trace of fat or grizzle. Excellent service and would recommend this pub to one and all.
The only criticism was a very noisy group of younger people who progressively became louder and louder after 10pm which made it difficult to enjoy our conversation in the adjoining dining room. There were only three young men but they insisted on shouting non stop which was unfortunate for the rest of the people.

I recently visited the area with my partner. We stumbled upon the King Henry VIII and decided to stop for a bite to eat. I feel the need to express our delight. When we arrived the open fires were lit and burning, friendly and approachable staff to greet us and offer us a table.
We both were excited to see that the good old pubs with a good ambiance still exist, rather than some gastro-restaraunt with no vibe.

We ordered the Pork Belly and Beef & Horseradish Nut Crumble. The food exceeded our expectations and was worth every single penny. The King Henry the VIII is definatley a must for tourists and locals to pit stop and appreciate whats available.

Thank you to all at the King Henry VIII for a wonderful experience and we will be back to visit your friendly, welcoming and idyllic pub again.

I have been coming to this pub for a number of years and it is still as accomodating as ever, I have never booked a table yet always get one. We had the the steak pies, pies being a favourite of mine which were served with chips and mashed potato. The pies, now individual rather than sliced from a larger pie, are still excellent, as is the gravy and individually served vegetables. The mash was a mean portion although OK in taste, the chips were simply not good enough for decent gastropub or restaurant. If you charge £10.95 for a pie you would certainly expect proper deep fried hand cut chunky chips to be served with it, not a small portion of mediocre cheap frozen chips. It may seem a basic requirement, but it's surprising how many places cannot provide the simplest of foods cooked well. If that's the price I have to pay I would rather spend £14.95 and get proper chips with the meal.

Thank you for your review & feedback.

Are you in the correct establishment? We have never served sliced pie from a whole pie and if you are a regular visitor as stated to my establishment you would know that. Secondly no where do we advertise that we are a gastro-pub or a restaurant. We are however a traditional English country pub which serves honest home cooked dishes. You comment in the heading that the pub isn't as good as it used to be, but make no suggestions to what has changed??

We don't suggest the chips we serve are hand cut chips, but can guarantee to all future guests, the chips we do source are one of the best available to the industry, but we appreciate individual tastes.

You value a meal with hand cut chips at £14.95, but make the comment that with the meal you purchased you would expect hand cut chips. I think you have indirectly contradicted your own statement here. You have focused heavily on 'chips', forgetting to mention that the pie is homemade and deep filled. Some establishments (namely a restaurant or a gastro pub) would charge an additional fee to have vegetables served on the side.

Were the chips served to you not cooked well or just not to your liking? From your review I conclude not to your liking, so for you to then conclude, that majority of places can not cook the simplest of foods well doesn't make sense. Its fair here to say they just weren't proper (define?) deep fried hand cut chunky chips.

We are confident in our pricing policy but are happy to discuss any further comments directly with you or anybody reading this review - 01732 862457.

As an establishment owner I'm forever perplexed as to why you'd prefer to write supposedly constructive comments on a review site instead of speaking to us directly?

Please don't confuse my passion with being pedantic, as we welcome all levels of feedback & will happily explore all ideas presented.

A wonderful kentish pub with friendly staff, a cozy relaxed atmosphere with real log burning fires & traditional beams. The food is comforting, warming & hearty. Just try to save room for dessert!! A real treat. Wish it could be my local!
