If you like history, then these ruins are worth a visit. The towers are all that remain today. There is a caravan park nearby.

Atmospheric, especially on windy day ! grab yourself a history book and wander around, good for a walk, dogs too, grab yourself an ice crean or cup of tea on the way back ! public toilets very handy, ample parking..have been here several times when I have guests visit, well worth checking out.

We decided to have a look at the towers one evening in July 2012. It is a nice setting, and you can easily spend a couple of hours wandering in the area. The fort itself doesn't offer much in the way of entertainment as such, other than being nice to look at and wander around. It is free, although the car park is pay and display. However, the cost is minimal, and if you go after 6pm it is free anyway. Because we visited in the evening, the visitor centre was closed so I can't comment on that. We ate in the King Ethelbert pub which was very nice, and friendly.
We also wandered down to the beach and found some sand martins nesting in the cliff sides, which was nice to see.
A good place to go to get some fresh air and a nice walk.

Great views and plenty of places to sit along the way.

The car parks closer are pay and display but we got a free park near beacon hill and walked all along admiring the view. I would guess it was a good 5 kms away tho if you do park there but we saw street parking nearer to it also.
