We visited Berry’s Eatery twice so far for dinner and then lunch, and didn’t regret it. The look of our starters made me think that who made them really enjoyed their time in kitchen. I had calamari, my Mr Wonderful had prawns. Both starters came very well presented and tasted delicious. Attention was paid to very little detail. Same was with main courses (we ordered sirloin steak and salmon with noodles) and my deserts. I loved my plums in brandy on the first occasion and chocolate and caramel on the second. When my Darling jokingly mentioned that he did not taste much brandy in my desert, his brandy was served in a steaming glass, aroma was incredible. Yes, exactly how it should be, I hear you say, but how often and where do you get it served like that?!
I really did not expect anything like this, so could not help it but started chatting to the lady-owner of the eatery. It’s a family run business. They opened this place only last July, before they had a cake shop. So, here not only you can have a lovely meal at affordable prices, but if you need a cake for an occasion, they do it as well. The lady’s daughter loves making cup-cakes. The lady herself loves cooking; her favourite reading is cookery books. Majority of dishes from their menu are made to her recipes by a couple of young guys in the kitchen. Sometimes she cooks herself.
Atmosphere in the eatery is very informal, friendly, warm and welcoming. Although during our visits it was not very busy, but everyone who was there left smiling, hugging and thanking them, even those who sat all evening in front of each other grumpy in silence.
They really look forward to their first summer. They have already set a terrace in front of the building with a few tables, it’s very well protected by high fence from chilling winds. If you feel cold, they can offer you fleece blankets to wrap up warm.
In Herne Bay, where, apart from beach and traditional local and promenade and every coastal town curse-arcade, there is not much happening, cosy little places like this make such big difference. I wish Berry’s Eatery all success in the future as I hope very much to visit them again.
