“A well restored historic piece of Herne Bay”
Review of Central Bandstand

Central Bandstand
Ranked #5 of 43 things to do in Herne Bay
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 11, 2013

After many years of neglect, the Central Bandstand was repaired and brought up to date following major works to the seafront area. It now contains a pub and is well maintained. The seaward part of the building used to be in the sea at high tides and was crumbling, but now it is all on dry land. Sadly there is no access to the roof any more as I suspect H&S put an end to that!

The bandstand (built in the 1920's) was re-opened after a lengthy period of dereliction and neglect and is a very popular venue and meeting place. It goes very well with the Victorian theme of the seafront, with the clock tower and most of the architecture.
There is live music, children's events and stalls during the summer months, and during Christmas there are also seasonal events such as Santa's Grotto.
Personally the only thing to blight a perfect score for me is the overpriced restaurant and lack of free cash points (there is one for a charge), but that is a minor quibble.

Relaxing and tranquil place after a walk along the prom (away from the noisy arcades) Fresh air well that's enough for a cream tea! Some times you will find some musical performance there, easy listening, maybe a warm shelter from the north wind!

Events and meetings for all eventualities. A great restaurant The Maharajah and Makcari's cafe has all manner of foods and drinks. You can not fail to enjoy your time here. Downside the toilets are run by Canterbury District Council and are not checked enough for failures by their contractors.
