The King Charles Hotel

Stayed at the King Charles one night while on business at Greenwich University. For what you pay you can’t really knock it too much, all the staff were very friendly and the food at the bar was decent enough, the breakfast which was included was obviously pretty budget in terms of ingredients used for the cooked breakfast but again you can’t really expect much for the cost.

The hotel is generally a little rough around the edges, the room while clean had damp odour to it originating from the bathroom, the bed wasn’t too comfortable but I arrived at about 9pm and checked out at 7am so not too bad.

The hotel represents good value; just don’t expect anything fancy for what you’re paying. Will be visiting again in the near future and would probably stay again.

Thank you for your review.
I was very happy to read that were satisfied with your recent stay at the hotel. We are a family run business and although we cannot compete with the larger corporate chains of hotels on budgets and advertising, we do pride ourselves on our service, cleanliness and word of mouth recommendations.
We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

We stayed here for three nights to visit London and Canterbury which are both only one hour of driving from the hotel The staff was very helpful, we had a good breakfast and at evening some snacks in the bar with television. The rooms were OK, spacious enough to accomodate a family with three children. No parking problem, and the centre of Gillingham is close to the hotel where you can buy some stuff to prepare a picknick for lunch. Also nice is the nearby Splashes swimming pool.

I've had 3 stays at the King Charles Hotel and can highly recommend it. It is located close enough to Rochester University and provides good value, clean accommodation to suit all needs and group sizes. The staff are extremely helpful and willingly explained the loyalty card scheme as I planned to be a regular visitor whilst my nephew was at the university. Each of the rooms I have stayed in have had exceptionally comfy beds and clean facilities. Having slept on both sides of the hotel neither side is particularly noisy despite being on a main road and there were no noisy banging doors like in some hotels. The breakfasts have a wide variety of choice and the staff are happy to accommodate any special requirements.

There are plenty of restaurants and facilities within walking distance and good public transport links.

Given such reasonable prices (definitiely shop around online for deals though their own website had excellent prices and offers) I will defintitely stay again as family room facitlities are very good and spacious (i have an 8 yr old so freeview/bunkbeds/free breakfasts are a bonus).

We stayed here with our daughter and grandchildren following our son's wedding on 29th December. We found the reception staff very efficient, friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Even though our room was road side it was very quiet. Good value for money and would use it again. Grandchildren enjoyed staying in the hotel and liked the fish tanks.

I stayed here with my partner at very short notice as we were looking at properties to rent in the area and decided to stay at the last minute! The staff were efficient and helpful with the check in and had details ready for meals etc
We were given quite a small room even though there were a number of larger rooms available. However we werent planning on staying more than the one night so this was ok for us. The only niggle was that the TV was in the corner by the head of the bed and you had to lie in a specific spot to be able to watch the tv, which was then backwards!
Our room overlooked an inner sqaure so it was quiet overnight but you could hear everything when people in other rooms started to get up and move around.
The bathroom was lovely and large with a big shower cubicle. Easy to use dials and no flooding.
Due to a cough that kept me up most of the night I missed breakfast so I cant comment on that but we had food from the bar for dinner which was ok. There was a decent selection available but we had sandwiches and pizza which was simple but nice.
We would stay again if in the area.

We did know about the problem with the television being on the wrong wall, but hopefully that was rectified during the recent refurbishment of that room.
We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

We had our wedding reception at The King Charles Hotel in the Cavalier Suite on 10/11/2012 & we don't have a negative thing to say. We dealt with Debbie DiGiorgio who was the most organised, professional, helpful & efficient person we dealt with throughout the entire wedding planning process. She was always easy to contact via phone or email & nothing was too much trouble. Debbie really knew her stuff & was able to advise us very well on pretty much every aspect of a wedding day!! She was on hand all day & made sure everything ran smoothly.

The hotel has access to in house DJs which are very reasonably priced & room decoration hire ie: chair covers/fairy lights etc. We had a sit down buffet & an evening buffet provided by the hotel - this again was well priced & went down well with our guests. The Cavalier Suite has a bar in the room which was a huge plus for us as we didn't want guests wandering around & the drinks were very cheap.

A lot of our friends stayed in the hotel overnight - this was made easy as rooms were reserved for us in advance so our guests could all get booked in. We stayed in the Bridal Spa room, which is GORGEOUS & has an amazing jacuzzi in the room. We topped it all off with breakfast in bed the next morning.

We come from Maidstone & spent a lot of time looking at hotels in our area - they all seemed to have a minimum price of £4000 upwards for any kind of reasonable reception, this was not the case with The King Charles. We found this was the cheapest hotel & only a 20 minute drive from where we got married. We definitely got a lot for our money & lots of our friends/relatives said the same.

If we had to do it all again we would certainly choose The King Charles again :)

Room Tip: Bridal Spa Suite is worth the money!

It is always good to know when a member of our team has gone the ‘extra mile’, and that is what we try to encourage all of our staff to do.
We always try to offer exceptional value for money, and I am glad that you feel we have achieved this.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best in your new life together, and hope you visit us again in the near future
