Having paid £60 for a night out here, I expected a lot more atmosphere than there was
There was a band who did a, thankfully, short set and the disco was some what bland, but the food was more than nice
I've never been here before, apart from to see the The Gills play at home. The reception area is clean and a free cloakroom is provided in which to put your coat. As you are seated upstairs for your meal, your coat is then transported upstairs for you to collect on your way home. Saves any drunken falls down the stairs.
The main eating room was tastefully decorated with twinkling fairy lights and the tables were set with balloons and party bits such as poppers and those self blow up balloons that then make a funny noise as you release them to fly around the room
The meal itself tasted very pleasant. It was set out beautifully on the plate, but, for £60 I would expect to have more than a choice of 2 dishes per course. I've been to places for Xmas dos, been charged less than half the price and had at least 3 choices for each course. Fairly small portions, but I think they are aiming for a more cultured look.
Food service was painfully slow and took 2 hours, then we sat waiting for the coffee and mince pies only to be told we served those to ourselves! Would have been nice to have been informed instead of getting to the coffee table to find cold mine pies and almost cold tea and coffee.
The band: no idea what they were called as they weren't announced but they played ska music. Now, this kind of music is impossible to dance to in any other way other than the 'Ska Way' which is bouncing up and down Madness style, it mostly ruined the evening for me. The slow food service added to it. When you are invited to pay for an Xmas do with entertainment and disco, you don't expect ska music. The DJ played some rather strange dance tracks, that seemed to be his personal home collection rather than a selection of decent dance tunes
Would I go again? Only if I was outvoted about the venue (works Christmas party). If I had a choice works Xmas do wouldn't be here again. Whilst the food was above average, the total night was only just average - lack of atmosphere and rubbish entertainment and disco tunes
We were here from 8 till 1, but can recommend you leave early
