“Needs a lot of money spending on it”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

I recently visited the ice rink with my 9yr old daughter. The last time I visited was probably 20 odd years ago and I genuinely don't think a penny has been spent on the place since!
Everywhere looked run down, shabby and dirty. The rubber flooring needs replacing, the seating was terrible and generally not very pleasant.
We ate in the cafe, which was very overpriced and really quite disgusting (a 9 yr old thought the hotdog and chips were inedible).Such a shame really as it is the only proper ice rink near by,but certainly won't rush back. The actual skating was fun,but everything else needs a load of tlc, given the money it cost (£18 for adult and child to skate plus locker fee, plus expensive lunch)

“Normal Ice Rink”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We went here a few months ago, it's nothing special really. The ice rink was very over-crowded and obviously they had ' hire a penguin ' for smaller children, and I know it sounds a bit stupid, but 5 year olds and over are too big for them? They should create larger ones, and it's a little bit run-down and very expensive for what you are getting. Perhaps they should update this rink.

“Expensive and haphazard.”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

I wish I had good things to say as it was my first time ice skating and I enjoyed the skating itself but this rink was dire. I would love to ice skate again but will go elsewhere next time.

Pompous, inpolite, miserable staff who clearly don't enjoy their jobs.

Place in general in disrepair. Dated, dark, dirty, dank, tatty... Needs a refurbishment. Very stuffy concidering all that ice.

Overcrowded rink, lack of marshalls or help for first timers and children. Too many people skating the wrong way and non moving congregations on the ice.

Waited over half an hour for a childs ice aid.

This sunday afternoon cost over £40 for 2 adults and 2 children. Without refeshments.

Go elsewhere.

“Overcrowded, dirty, tired and poor customer service”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

Took my children ice skating during half term. The ice rink was overcrowded to the point it was dangerous. The service was dire. Woman on reception till was disinterested to the point of rudeness. When we went to leave we had to queue for 20 minutes - whilst the woman behind the counter continued to serve people who could not be bothered to join the main queue. "The manager" couldn't care less and said that it was just because it was so busy and that the wait for food was 50 minutes! All probably confirming that the place was woefully understaffed and too many people had been let in.

On the ice there was only one skate marshall - for what looked like at least 200 kids.

The place has not been refurbished since it opened in the 80s.

Avoid during school holidays at all costs!

“Spectators at Broadway on Ice on 16/12/12”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

Great show.

However, parking is insufficient for 'full houses' unless you arrive really early. Who has time for that, especially in the busy run-up to Christmas. Despite having tickets, all spectators were expected to queue outside in the open air. Luckily it was a beautiful day, but this was December and it could have been much colder. Fortunately my friend warned me of both of these.

Once we were in, the facilities for the mobility-impaired were rather grudgingly provided: basic chairs in the open gallery near the entrance. Apparently the disabled were previously allowed to sit in the bar - warmer and pleasanter - but not now. Other disabled spectators spoke of an uncaring attitude by staff. At least their seating area was very near toilets - but the disabled toilet was too cramped to get into with a walking frame.

2 redeeming features: catering staff. Very friendly (and under-worked) in the bar area. In the interval, there was a long queue for food. However, it moved quickly due to that magic ingredient so often lacking these days: ENOUGH STAFF. These were evenly distributed, so that 1 lady took orders, 2 others served food, and another took money. Result: everyone who chose to get food in the interval rather than during the actual show GOT SERVED. Again, these staff were friendly and even came to the cafe door at the end to jig about to the music on the grand finale. Lovely touch.
