Description: The Phoenix Tavern is situated in a splendid building with oak frame and beams. Originally a medieval hall house dating from about 1330. The hall was the main bar area and part of the jettied ends was in the Club Room. Though not visible from the ground floor, it has arched tie-beams and two large curved brackets to the posts forming a pointed arch, with a crown post, collar purlin and brackets at either end. The inglenook fireplaces would have been put in much later, in the 1600s, and would have given the residents a vastly improved lifestyle – free of smoke and with better cooking. Though additions have been made to the Building, it offers an historic, traditional feel. The Bar area is divided into 3 parts, The front bar, Back bar and Restaurant dinning area. There is also a Large garden and car park. Our kitchen is open all day for freshly prepared meals.

The Timothy Taylor beer was excellent. A kind barmaid gave a drop to taste before ordering. A nice touch. The food, however, was well below par. We ordered a couple of sandwiches Brie, bacon and cranberries. My mate had a salad with his as that was the normal arrangement. I ordered chips with mine at an extra cost and mine was served without a salad or relish. The sandwich was composed of thick slices of white bread toast with minimal content inside. I could not eat the cheap and stodgy toast as there was not sufficient appetizing content nor relish. An uncooked Ciabatta would have been a more appetizing option. Conclusion beer ok avoid the sandwiches.

We went to The Phoenix Tavern because they had live music on. The band was fantastic really great song list and very talented.
The pub did get a little full but it wasn’t packed which is a shocker because it was a Saturday night of bank holiday weekend.
The drinks were good and everyone behind the bar were happy enough to serve them up.
I would go back for another band night.

Ate at the Phoenix on Saturday nights a group of 12. We were asked to pre order if possible but could swap for the specials if we wished. All the food arrived on time and perfectly prepared. Good honest pub grub, generous helpings served with a smile. Good value menu and wine list, we will return. There was also a live group playing which was an added bonus. Lovely evening.
