“Quaint, friendly, but....”
Reviewed June 6, 2012

The central location makes this place ideal for visiting Faversham (and do take a 30 min stroll down to the dock-yard - it's very picturesque, with plenty of plaques on walls explaining the history).

Unfortunately, the local council's draconian attitude towards cars and parking makes staying at the Sun Inn less than convenient. There's no on-site parking (as the pub is on a pedestrianised road), and the nearest car-park is time-limited - with the local "penguins" up bright and early to slap tickets on any car without a fresh ticket before 8 AM (we know, as we saw them!). We ended up parking in a street 10 mins walk away, which could be an issue for some would-be guests.

There were also some temporary problems with the TV - namely, dreadful picture quality (which should be rectified soon with a new feed, according to a note from the management). The wi-fi is also weak to non-existent. While these are hardly disastrous issues, they'd be less irksome if the management made some kind of discount available until they are rectified.

The room was pretty good - ok beds, shower etc. The breakfast was also pretty good (the haddock and poached eggs is recommended), though some of the crockery was a bit grubby.

Overall, an ok place with friendly staff but with a few issues that may leave some guests a little disappointed. Would we stay again ? Probably not.

We stayed at the Sun Inn, 4th June 2012. The hotel has fantastic character and history going back hundreds of years. We were there for B&B only. The full English breakfast was as good as you will get anywhere. The room was small, but very clean ath the top of the building climbing very steep steps. On a down side the tv had no signal and there was a very small note on the wall explaining about the digital change over to be completed this month. We couldnt get the shower to work either, so it was a bath only. There is no parking, but there is pay by the hour parking at the rear. The staff were very friendly and would return again to the same place, not bad value at £65.00 per room.

Nice little bar hotel (only about 8 rooms). Built in 1400's so expect quirks like steep, narrow stairs.

In our case the shower didn't work so remembering how to take a bath was different!

Also no parking on premises but there are a couple of car parks nearby and our rental was quite safe.

We had visited Faversham a few weeks earlier on our way back from Canterbury and we had a drink and meal at the Sun.We decided to return to explore Faversham further and we stayed at the Sun.We arrived at noon but our room was available immediately so we could dump our things and start exploring. There is no parking at the pub but there is a public car park opposite the rear entrance so parking was not a problem. Our room was well equiped although small. We did not eat dinner at the hotel but found a superb Indian restaurant nearby. The full English breakfast the next morning was superb and we really enjoyed sampling the local ales in the many pubs of Faversham!

Room Tip: we stayed in room 7 which is a little small but has everything you might need

Rooms are not all large as some reviews suggest, but all are of a good size and the whole building is well maintained. Staff are always friendly and helpful here and cannot fault the quality of the food. Excellent breakfast in particular. As you would expect in Faversham, cask ale is well kept and the wines are a fair price. Inn is in centre of town with a conveninet pay car park behind it. Stayed here twice now and will not hesitate to use it again for visits to this part of Kent.

Room Tip: Rooms in outer builidng, 7, 8 and 9, all appear to have electric space-saving wastepipe systems, whi...

The Sun Inn is a great place to stay if you want to sample Shepherd Neame beer and Kentish food. The dinner we had in the pub was excellent quality and really good value for money. The breakfast was equally good but the only thing that let it down was that they served instant coffee rather than cafetiere coffee.

The room was spacious and they were accommodating for our needs of a travel cot and young children are most welcome.

Another minor point is that parking is not ideal as the carpark closest charges between 8am and 6pm but in the grand scheme of things this was not such a big deal.
