Three of us visited The Plough Inn for lunch on Saturday 8th March 2014 and were very satisfied with our choice of pub. We had just finished a 5.5 mile walk in the area and were feeling hungry and thirsty.

There was a good selection of beers on tap, two of us went for the Ripple Steam Brewery Best and it was delicious, less than £3 a pint as well. The menu had plenty of good, simple, home cooked options and were all priced very keenly. I went for boiled ham with bubble and squeak and fried eggs (£6.95). My friends chose a vegetarian nut roast, and a pork sirloin dish. They both enjoyed their choices too.

As the main courses were so well priced, we ordered puddings as well. Again a good selection, not all of them were home cooked but the waitress told us which ones were. All were priced at only £2.95 and they were lovely.

The service was very good and the atmosphere was very friendly. There was a small TV showing England beating Italy in the Six Nations too, the volume of the TV wasn't too loud.

We will visit again as there are lots of walking possibilities in the area.

My British twin brother was home on a visit from South Africa and wanted to have a 'proper' pub meal. We 'drew straws' on where to go and headed off for the lovely little village of Ripple near Deal to the Plough Inn. We felt like we had certainly drawn the right straw as we walked into a very quaint pub with a big warm welcome from the landlord. The regulars were friendly too and the atmosphere was 'just right'. My brother was very pleased with the beers on offer and the menu was really appealling. It was down to earth, good pub grub, without any pretentiousness or over-stylised offerings. My brother went for the Lamb Shanks and I had Hunter's Chicken. Both meals were piping hot, extremely tasty and comfortably large portions. It was the best of home-cooking you can get; every morsel eagerly digested and flavoursome. Although I'm not normally a 'British Pudding' eater, the only way to round off this meal was with Gooseberry Crumble and, in my case ice-cream, in my brother's, custard. Absolutely delicious! Looking around at other diners (part of the joy of pub eating!), the sausages looked fabulous also. A perfect evening with a very engaging host and extremely good PROPER pub food. we will definitely go back.
