Easy check in process. Lovely small lobby area. The room itself was very comfortable. The carpet could have used a good deep cleaning, but other than that it was very clean. The dresser beside the bed had a USB charging port, which is always appreciated. Coffee in the room would have been nice- I only saw some at the end of the hall, and all the pods were flavored. I did notice I had been overcharged for the room, but they immediately took care of it. I enjoyed our dinner in the tavern. The steak sandwich was very tender and flavorful, and the bartender made excellent Manhattans. You can walk to everything in town, which was nice.

Menu is half what it used to be. Impressive renovations but atmosphere is bright and loud, not dark and romantic. Food was good but extremely small menu. If you like variety go someplace else. Never seems busy

There must be a lot of history in these walls... Everything is polished, the bar is grand and they have a good restaurant. Really nice to sit outside and enjoy your dinner. Room was clean and comfortable and of course with all amenities. The only disappointment was the included breakfast. It was really nothing.

This property has it all. It's a historic landmark, beautiful old building, millions invested into remodeling, anchor for a picturesque small midwestern city with an old liberal arts college.

We stayed here many years ago and as we were driving cross country, decided it would be fun to revisit. The reviews all raved about remodeling and were very complimentary.

We happened to have hit the day of the Porsche owner rally so the town was full of multi colored frog cars and lots of people walking around with upturned collars and sunglasses. The inn was full, we booked the last room online.

Externally the building hasn't changed much, still the same stately elegant structure. Inside the rooms have been transformed and done very well. Beds are tread, bedding wonderful, bathrooms are nicely tastefully done, shower strong and hot. Wifi was free and strong.

However there were issues. He biggest one is the poorly installed HVAC system. As we walked through the hallway, there was a great deal of noise and vibration from AC. In the room itself the problem persisted. In some ways it was even worse. When the AC came on (which was frequently) it sounded like a jet taking off. This is not acceptable in any hotel. Particularly the one where we just paid $250 for the room.
I called the front desk and talked with the manager who sounded mildly bothered. I explained the problem and she calmly acknowledged that it's a known fact and it's just the way it is. I asked if we could be moved, but the Porsche enthusiast had moved into all the other rooms.

Two things that bothered me here - the obvious shortfall of the installation and continuing to rent out the room(s) which have this level of noise. The other thing was the Government bureaucrat style of customer service - full of indifference and "take it or leave it" attitude. The inn is owned by the University and this may explain the HR shortcomings in staff hiring.

Food and beverage also is not up to snuff.
"The tavern" sever good sounding but mediocre tasting food. And the "included" breakfast was mostly continental affair with many items missing by the time we got there. When queried the cheerful server said that she "wasn't sure" if there was more breakfast sandwich or what else she may or may not have in the back. After some prodding she came up with one. At check in they provided you with the "breaksfast voucher" that the server demanded - as if some determined outsiders would try to sneak into the inn and take advantage of the continental breakfast. Again, wrongheaded management by someone who probably managed the university cafeteria.

Unless the Inn gets some real professional management and a better staff training program in place, the opportunity will continue to be missed. Oh yeah, and fox that AC setup.

The Granville Inn dates back to 1924 and maintains its Old World charm. It has a lovely patio where we enjoyed brunch with some of our family, including 4 teenagers. The food was good and the menu varied--something for everyone. We enjoyed the ambience of the patio--nicer than the stuffy dining room inside on a nice summer Sunday--and even the prices were reasonable. Service was a bit lacking, although friendly, and it seemed as if the main problem was not enough staff, something unexpected during the summer holidays.

Room tip: Didn't stay here; only enjoyed brunch
