A nice relaxed environment. Loved the waitress, an interesting eccentric character. The wines were great. We had a chat about them with the waitress and she gave me a free glass of wine to taste that she recommended. Generous. I shared dishes with my friend as there were a few things that I wanted to try on the menu. Great food. Well presented. Amazing cheese board. Would recommend.

We had an excellent meal in this unpretentious restaurant and were looked after by the owner and a young man who obviously cared about the quality of the food and your enjoyment.

It well deserves its Michelin star and I would recommend it to anybody who appreciates fine dining in simple yet elegant surroundings.

Welcomed by Faith and her trusty assistant and were seated. The menu was good as normal I opted for the scallops and black pudding crisps and not for the first time, followed by the oxtail which was described as a hug in a bowl and certainly lived up to the description. For pudding I decided on the chocolate, pistachio and chilli which was very good indeed.

Always looking forward to the next visit.

Five of us came here for Sunday lunch (£26.50 for two courses/£32.00 for three) in early December. From outside it doesn’t look like much at all, but is cosy enough inside with well-spaced comfortable tables and lovely loos. The menu is short (around five choices per course), but if you can’t find something you like here, don’t bother eating out. The dishes are really carefully chosen to appeal to different tastes and none of them disappoint.

The scallop starter was delicious with a moreish caramelised cauliflower puree, while the Carpaccio of smoked beef with home-pickled vegetables and a horseradish crème fraiche looked great and was an explosion of textures and flavours. The stand-out main was probably the halibut, although partridge, sea bass and even the mushroom lasagne showed unbelievable skill and imagination and were perfectly executed.

Even if you are not normally a “pudding person” (I’m not), I seriously recommend having a dessert. The dark chocolate mousse with passion fruit jelly, pistachios and ice-cream was one of the best dishes I have had this year, and fellow diners loved the apple charlotte and rhubarb/lavender creations. The petit fours only cost about £2 extra and the pear jelly alone is worth the price – truly wonderful.

Service was great – the chef’s wife and a family friend – and you really get the feeling that the whole concept is a labour of love. The chef is not only ambitious and painstaking, but clearly understands what good food is all about. Very, very fair prices for very good food.

Another visit to one of the best restaurants we have been to anywhere , how we wish they could transport this place to Hampstead or Barbados or any place we go to , but instead as one review has said the residents of cranbrook should be celebrating their good luck to have this place on its doorstep.
Cod Brandade, quail eggs , green beans , tomato capers and anchovies all on one picture
perfect plate and so on throughout the list, all excellent wont bore by reciting the menu , nothing is wasted on the plate its all there for a reason, precision cooking with flair, desserts , well, they are a fine way to end a perfect meal.
Service by Faith and her assistant is caring and amusing , the room is small and intimate.
Lucky us !
