Stayed for a few nights and could not fault it. Strongly recommend The George Hotel to anyone. From the warm welcome on arrival to the great breakfast on the day of departure. We managed to have dinner in the restaurant and the service and food was very good. We felt like home and will be back

Stayed midweek - Thursday - and amazingly busy. Testament to the atmosphere and service. We had the Crimson room which was beautiful and well worth a little bit extra. Hadn't booked a table for dinner but were happily accommodated in the bar. Had a very reasonably priced meal from the bistro menu and it was more than adequate. Ordered extra chips in view of an earlier comment about the frugal portions but it wasn't needed. Off street parking which is always a bonus. Would definitely stay there again.

Although living in spittting distance of kent, we deceided to take a three day break in the Weald of the county. Cranbrook and other local towns are beautiful place and as their locations means a quick drive but with so many destinations to choose from, a couple of days at The George Hotel seemed appropriate. It's a lovely hotel, there is a bit of roughness around the edges but that gives it all the more character. They have a restaurant and a brasserie - both fufilling their purpose, the brasserie food being more simple and for the hungry walker, somewhat more filling. Our room, Aurum, was high ceilinged but well furnished and all things that needed to work did so. We reckoned that The George Hotel is more suitable for couples and families with adult children, not because staff were unfriendly but more that the hotel is destination for locals who fancy a pint or four and with this comes the banter of any typical bar. I slept, so did my wife, but would a five year old? I see another comment suggesting they do ;0). Anyway, well done George Hotel, you were a great hub for our break!

Room Tip: The car park is cramped but doable. Perhaps ask for a room not so close to where revellers sit?

Came here with friends after walking out of an awful meal at the White Horse. Staff could not have been friendlier here, food was lovely, sandwiches great and chips nice and hot. Would definitely come here again and would not hesitate to recommend The George for a lovely meal.

Even on a Thursday as we arrived, the hotel bar was buzzing. The pavement to the front and the Wisteria-sheltered terrace opposite the carpark were packed with drinkers on Friday night. They're popular...
I'd seen some of the recent reviews and hoped we got the friendly shift, if that's what made some reviews so worrying.
We were checked-in promptly and courteously, slept on a good mattress, ate two delicious breakfasts and our only wee gripe is that the carpark is not very spacious. However, there is a free carpark beween this Elizabethan building and the tallest smock windmill in the land, just a few yards around the corner.
Just wish those old timbers could talk...

Room Tip: Room 9 [Pewter] is over the kitchen, we think. No discernable cooking smells, but woke to sound of a...

We've just had a very pleasant 1 night stay here with our 2 children age 8 and 5. Staff very accommodating and helpful and the 2 z beds worked well for 1 night in the beautiful and characterful Crimson room. The restaurant was beautiful, tastefully decorated. The dinner was fine but not amazing. The soufflés were tasteless and the meringue in the pavlova shop bought, but the staff did not charge for the soufflés and were very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was again absolutely fine, not amazing.

Location directly on a busy High street with limited outdoor space (small patio onto the carpark) so wouldnt take children for any longer than 1 night. No green spaced views here given its central town location.

Overall great value in a lovely hotel with friendly staff. Would return especially in winter as it would make a cosy break.

We stayed as part of a wedding party, the "free" car park is very small ,hit the front of the car on a wall that sticking out. No-one on Reception, took payment immediately without this NO Room! Drink at the bar, staff messing about with wrong orders of drinks. asked twice about how late the bar shut as we were part of a wedding party, told 12.30am. We came back from the wedding - arrived at 12.25pm, a member of staff opened the locked doors and bar was shut! member of staff was really rude and kept saying about how many hours he had been working, refused point blank to open the bar even thought the bride and groom had made prior arrangements with them. Most guests went to bed and then the Groom arrived, they then had to find the contract clearly stating that as part of their deal they had paid to make sure they had a late bar when they returned from their wedding venue! who cuts thier wedding short eh!? he still refused to open the bar but let them charge bottles of drink to the rooms! Bed very hard could not sleep and very noisy and swealtering hot. shower head was dirty.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere - hotels are cheaper accross the road or in Maidstone
