I had booked a table in the Brasserie for a meal with my friends in feb 2013. When we arrived we ordered drinks and asked them to be put on a tab,as i had booked a table for 6pm.The young man behind the bar went off to see what table we were on,came back and left us standing there, totally ignored us and served someone else.We stood there for a while thinking he would show us to our table (WRONG).So we took it upon ourselves to find our own table and to get our own menus.

It was now 6.45pm when someone eventually came to take our order. The food was average and very small portions and well over priced.During the meal we were asked to move to another table 3 times as the table was reserved, naturally we thought for us,which we declined.to move.

After the meal we ordered irish coffees and to our astonishment they turned up in a cup and milk in a jug. When i explained to the waitress that this was not how a irish coffee is presented, she replied oh isn't it and no apology. It took yet another 15mins for her to return with the coffees in the right format

When we spoke to the manager, she was young, inexperienced, lack people skills, rude and uncooperative and so was the staff!!!!!

Absolutely appalling service in their bar. I ordered a coffee which took 35 minutes to come and when it did was tepid and as weak as dishwater. Someone needs to teach the sullen and unprofessional daytime staff how to make coffee. Some butter was brought to my table, clearly scooped up from another table, full of crumbs and a single blonde hair - unpleasant, but not as unpleasant as the waitress when I asked for fresh butter. I've spent quite a bit of time at the George and it has the feeling of a place on the slide. This is a great shame. The rooms are OK but if you want a coffee, breakfast or other meals their are better places nearby. It's a beautiful building in a great location, the current owners are missing an opportunity.

Have been here a couple of times before and both times had nice food and good service. The last time however, was a different storey. The staff had a "Kevin and Perry" approach to service which made us feel invisible and that we had perhaps caught them on a "couldnt care less" day. We had to chase for more drinks, knives/forks and sauces etc. Food was not up to scratch either. No sign of the landlord..maybe that was the problem :(

I was taken to the restaurant for my birthday lunch. Although the restaurant is lovely inside and the choice of food was very good, the waitress was a little brusque. No smile or conversation.
No complaints about the food or speed of service. Perhaps she was having a bad day.

They obviously have a good chef in the back. Staff were great. Food superb, portions were HUGE so ask for smaller plates if you don't want man-size portions.
