“Enjoyable end to a long day”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

Having spent the afternoon at nearby Sissinghurst Castle Gardens this gastropub offered the perfect place to eat in the evening. They have a good selection of cask ales and at least 8 wines by the glass, so we were all tastes were catered for. Menu was interesting with plenty of choice for carnivores and vegetarians alike. Excellent rib-eye steaks and first rate frites were eagerly eaten as was the meditteranean vegetable tart along with fresh vegetables (and frites!). Staff are all very friendly and chatty and always willing to help. Only shame is that it is over two hours from where we live!

“Food heaven but at a price!”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

Cracking meal at a fab pub in a beautiful setting. Service attentive and food sourced locally in the main. Excellent range of beers and the wine list very acceptable. Recommend the steak. Outstanding! This pub is similar to a hostilery in Surrey called The Withies. Both have a certain 'je ne sais quoi'! Thoroughly recommended.

“Goats Cheese”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

We recently celebrated our twin daughters 18th Birthday here with an evening meal. The meals were lovely, if a bit pricey, for everyone except me. I am vegetarian and the options were somewhat limited in fact the only main course choice was cous cous with goats cheese. I requested the meal without the cheese but it was served with. On pointing out the mistake the meal was taken away and the cheese removed but this meant the taste was still there. This spoiled an otherwise lovely evening.

“A bit overpriced”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

I've eaten here on several occasions over two years, both for lunch and dinner. The best times have been for lunch in the garden during the summer. It's pretty and sheltered.

The menu offers a good choice of dishes but on the last occasion with two guests, my choice of steak and chips was disappointing, even though our seating was in front of a cosy log burner and couldn't have been nicer on a cold evening. The steak was tough and the chips were similar to oven fries and rather anaemic to boot. At these prices I expect triple fried home made chips and was surprised at the poor quality but not wanting to hold up others by complaining.

It was such a contrast to what I'd eaten before and I haven't been back, especially as it's not exactly good value. I'll take note of reviews with interest before returning in a hurry.
