This is posh nosh in a beautiful setting. By far the poshest place to eat in Yarmouth with a price tag to match but well worth every penny.

We booked a table for seven pm for a special occasion with friends as our previous experiences had all been good. We arrived at six thirty for a preprandial and we were told that the menus were not yet printed for the evening. Rather unusual, we thought, but we were assured that this was their usual practice and they would be with us shortly. Seven duly arrived, still no menu. So we went looking and enquiring only to be told that they were still not ready. Being patient people we waited another twenty minutes but still no sign of any activity on the menu front so off we went to see what we could find. At last! They were available. By this time we were thoroughly disenchanted and paid our bar bill and went elsewhere.
My wife was still incensed the next morning (she is usually a calm person) and decided to ring the hotel to let them know how we felt. The explanation boiled down to two things which you, dear reader, may find instructive; menus are only printed for evening meals just prior to service so booking a table at opening time for the restaurant will mean a wait for printing before ordering and a subsequent delay in dining (important to us as my wife is diabetic) and secondly we were advised that the hotel guests had priority over the visitors to the eatery.
No sign of contrition emerged during my wife's chat with the member of staff and she felt that it was as if we were to blame for not being hotel guests using the restaurant.
The lack of care for diners not staying was dreadful and we would not wish to see anyone treated like this again.

We visited for a few evening drinks and possibly food. Sat outside in lovely garden. Only one poor guy serving at outside bar. Long wait to be served and he clearly was very busy. As it got cold we thought we would have a drink inside and check out the menu. The restaurant was quiet with three members of staff standing talking. We waited at the bar ten minutes. The guy from outside then came in and told us only the outside bar was open. We left. Very poor service!

Not been here to eat, but have sat outside for drinks twice whilst on holiday in Yarmouth.

The George has an amazing (and private) garden area overlooking the sea, and whilst we did only drink here it looked an amazing setting for a boozy lunch enjoying the sun!

I treated my sister to lunch in July, we sat outside in the sun watching the marine world go by.
The staff were charming & the food very good.
I've eaten at The George for many years, it is always a pleasure.
