Description: The winds of change have hit Forresters. We are now open as a Wine Bar with several bar snacks available from a simple sandwich to salads and house specials, all at very reasonable prices. I have decided that 3 courses of fine dining isn't always the best evening out. Sometimes a prawn cocktail and a glass of wine in elegant surroundings fits the bill perfectly. So there will always be a good choice of food but no longer fine dining. Still the wonderful ambiance of Forresters Hall, always good service but now at a fraction of fine dining and pub prices. How about a cocktail to start off your evening? Or reserve our mezzanine floor for a small private party. Hire out the whole place for functions or family get togethers. Or just pop in for an alternative place for a drink. I am determined to keep both food and drink prices extremely sensible, eg bowl of chilli and a crusty baguette for £5 and spirit and a mixer for £3. Regular live music, not loud but pleasantly entertaining and enjoyable. Regular pianist on most Fridays. I hope that you will still keep us on your list of places to go and look forward to welcoming you to Forresters Wine Bar.

“Superb food and service”
Reviewed December 24, 2012 via mobile

Visited the Isle of Wight on Saturday for a family Christmas meal. We had a 4 course lunch that was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Service was fantastic- friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The saxophonist playing Christmas songs created a great atmosphere without being over-bearing. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant, couldn't fault it!

“Culinary highlight”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

My fourth visit to Forresters bistro this year took in the set Christmas menu, good value at £17.50 for three courses plus coffee and a small mince pie. Christmas menus usually make my heart sink, but the four selections for starter, main and dessert gave a good breadth of choice, including a vegetarian option - the main was a tasty puy lentil and vegetable terrine - and traditional Christmas dishes. The main level of the restaurant was full (the mezzanine was empty), but service was both friendly and good for our table of seven. Between us we tried virtually everything on the menu, and nothing disappointed. Wine, a Chilean Merlot, was £16.95 a bottle; bottled Isle of Wight bitter from Yates £3.95. Forresters is one of the culinary highlights of West Wight - tasty, well-cooked bistro-style food that's a good notch or two up from pub food, but not too pretentious. Food quality and service has been reliable on all visits. Outside Christmas, the à la carte menu is worth exploring.

“Up the Stairs But Worth it.”

Springtime visit. Cool and rainy outside, but warm and cozy inside. It was a weekday evening in May, so not very crowded. Friendly service, good food, warm atmosphere and good wine. A very enjoyable evening. I would go back.

“What a fantastic evening”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

This has to be one of the friendliest restaurants we have ever been too, and the food matched the atmosphere. A brilliant evening. We were made to feel so welcome, were given the food menu and after being served our drinks were given plenty of time to continue chatting while making our decision. The Goats cheese tart was amazing, the Game stew just melted in your mouth and the home made Christmas pudding could not be faulted. All the staff quite clearly wanted us to have a good time, and were happy to chat about the building and the really interesting photos of the 1970 Isle of White festival on the wall. It was clear to see that they really enjoyed working at the Forresters, and this enthusiasm made the evening really special. We will return again, even though it means a 200 mile trip from Devon. Thank you so much.
