Even though February seems like an unlikely time of the year to book a seaside holiday on the Isle of Wight, my wife has a great love of the island, so I booked this apartment as part of her 40th birthday present.
We were familiar with the location, having eaten at the nearby gastro-pub several times before ('The Waterfront', which is excellent by the way) so we had an idea of what to expect, but even at that, our initial reaction to walking into the apartment for the first time was a unanimous "Wow!"
The first things that you will notice are the huge feature windows that look out over the bay in both the master bedroom (which is massive, with en suite) and the living/dining area. Both are West facing, so the sunsets were amazing - even better in summer - and our visit had the perpetual soundtrack of the sea; sometimes gently lapping, sometimes crashing spectacularly against the sea-wall at high tide! (Some guests might find that intrusive, but it's only to be expected at a seafront property, and we were just enchanted by it for the whole duration of the visit.)
The apartment itself is surprisingly large (vast, even), with each of our girls enjoying a room to themselves, which afforded everyone plenty of privacy when needed. The kitchen is well equipped and also spacious, with extra plastic dishes and utensils for use in the included beach-hut (which we didn't use as it was a wee bit chilly, but it would be superb in the summer).
The property is literally a 10-minute drive from the Lymington/Yarmouth ferry. It's also in close proximity to the Needles and an excellent base for exploring the island's numerous other attractions and spectacular scenery (notably along the 'Military Road'). This was our third visit to the island and we still found lots of new things to keep us entertained, even off-season, and that's with a teenager and a 6-year-old. From Queen Victoria's former residence (Osborne House) to fossil collecting, swimming pools, cinemas, zoos, museums, castles, the adorable - and worthy - donkey sanctuary, the micro-climate in Ventnor that allows subtropical plant species to flourish in the botanical gardens... the list goes on and on (and on).
We love the island, the apartment is flawless - pictures don't do it enough justice (although on seeing some of my wife's photographs of and through the windows, my stepmother instantly added it to her 'bucket list'!)
'NeedIes' to say (soz) I can thoroughly recommend both the island and this apartment (oh, and the owners who live downstairs are really friendly too!).
I'll stop gushing now, but if you are thinking about renting this property, then do it; I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
