We had a wonderful weekend at the Seaview hotel. This was our seconnd visit to the Seaview, having last stayed in 2009, and it was just as good as I remember. The room was bright and airy, and there was a nice bathroom with lovely products.

We ate in the bar on the Friday night and it was great - felt like a proper pub (in the back bar) with great beer and some great food - everything from pub classics to more refined (I had salmon with local asparagus and crushed new potatoes which frankly I could have eaten again it was that good).

Breakfast in the main restaurant was fabulous, all the usual croissants, yoghurt etc, with choices of full english (using their own sausages) and also standards like Eggs Benedict.

On the second evening we ate in the restaurant. Their fixed price menu of three courses for £30 was excellent value and yet again the food was fantastic.

Throughout our stay the staff were universally lovely - friendly and efficient.

I love the Isle of Wight and we've been many times over the years. If you're looking for somewhere relaxed and classy to stay when visiting this beautiful island then this is an ideal location.

Room Tip: On our first trip our room was at the front of the hotel with a lovely four poster bed.

Everyone at the hotel was delighted to read your feedback and more importantly to hear that you had a lovely time - this is of course our primary concern.

It is very easy to have a love affair with the island - there's such a variety of landscapes, coastal splendour as well as a rich, interesting history featuring efficient Romans, nefarious smugglers, pioneering sailors, celebrity poets and even an Empress who built a palace. In essence, it does feel a world apart. In particular I think that Seaview retains an uspoilt charm that is rare to find these days and this presence of the past is very evocative.

Lately the island has justly attracted a lot of attention for its local crops - garlic, tomatoes, asparagus, sweetcorn as well as cheese, lamb and of course fish and shellfish. Some say we are experiencing a food renaissance - all I can say is it's very tasty and long may it last!

We really look forward to your next visit and once again we appreciate your kind comments.

Best wishes

We have just come home after a wonderful weekend in Seaview and already I have been looking at when we can come back to this lovely hotel as we are missing it so much already - it was very hard to leave today. The staff were so kind and friendly and there was such a relaxed, welcoming feel here that it was so easy to settle in and feel at home. We stayed in the Apartment which was nice and spacious and had a stunning picture window overlooking the Solent - it was much better than television - the children adored looking out at the ever changing scenery...continually excited by the ferries and tankers! As mentioned by a previous reviewer the breakfasts were superb - and we also had a lovely evening dinner - the catch of the day tasted of the sea and my fish soup was absolutely delicious. All this ... without even mentioning what a lovely place Seaview is and that the hotel is a 30 second run to the beach which my son insisted on doing at every opportunity... the beach has everything ... shells, rock pools, crabs, rocks for hopping over and a little sandy beach at low tide. Can't wait to do it all again ... soon!

We are all extremely pleased that you had a lovely weekend away and thank you so much for taking the time to post a review.

Regarding the children being fascinated by the shipping, here's a lovely description of Seaview in a 1930's tourist guide which refers to the very same thing:

'Pretty Seaview to-day holds an enviable position among those minor seaside resorts which appeal so much more strongly to discriminating holiday-makers than do the larger towns. It is appropriately named, being situated on a prominent headland at the north-eastern extremity of the Island, com-manding a spacious outlook over the Solent and the open sea. The constant procession of warships, liners and craft of all kinds is a source of never-failing interest.'

It is mesmerising sight, thank you for sharing and we hope to see you again.

Warmest wishes

Looking for a 'pit-stop' for lunch, for a family of four with two dogs, during a day-trip to Seaview, we used the TripAdvisor 'App' and decided to visit the bar @ The Seaview Hotel...

It laid out in it's nautical theme, being very appropriate, was such a good find! Not the most expansive of menu's but was perfect for what we needed. I myself went for the 'Soup of the Day' fantastic, served with a tomato focaccia bread - loverly!

I would definitely go back, and looking @ there website, may even look to have a stay there also...

We are very appy that you used your Tripadvisor app to find us and thank you for letting us know about your lunch experience. We have now introduced a delicious soupe de poisson served with gruyere, garlicky rouille and toasted croutes - a real taste of island life.

Best wishes the Seaview seasiders :)

We have returned after two years away and enjoyed our stay with our family in this lovely quirky hotel. As always the staff were wonderful with nothing too much bother and who greet you like a long lost friend. My son's family love the place to bits and took the Apartment whilst we stayed separately in a front bedroom. The grandchildren just loved getting down amongst the rocks and would have played there all day given the chance. The food was especially good with breakfast excelling; hot, wide choice and a real fruit salad to complement the cereals and other choices. Yes it is a bit more pricey as previous comments note but worth it and yes there are always small pick up points that could be made but that would spoil what the hotel deserves and that is a high recommendation for service, relaxation and first class food.

Thank you so much for your lovely review and recommendation. It is alway a boost for staff to read such nice comments as customer service is their priority.

Rock pooling and lost hours on the beach should be the cornerstone of a Great British seaside holiday. Recently the island's beaches have won more blue flags and awards, making the Isle of Wight number one region in the south east for award winning beaches.

We look forward to welcoming you back and thank you for choosing the Seaview Hotel.

Best wishes

The Seaview (I hesitate to call it a hotel, which I will come on to), is a charming old building in a lovely setting - made even nicer by having spent the weekend overlooking the bay in perfect sunshine. The Seaview has charm, and the staff couldn't be faulted. The outside terrace is a really nice spot to sit, and enjoy a drink in sun. The food is lovely and breakfast was great - the ladies who serve in the restaurant were enjoyably efficient, but there are just a few touches missing.
Ultimately, the Seaview is a restaurant and bars with rooms. Our room was lovely and big, but also be aware there are some rooms in a modern annex at the back and for those you walk through the car park. However, there is no residents lounge or any area that allows you some benefits to paying £175 for the room. There is mention of a swimming pool, but it is in a private (though nice) sports club a walk away, and you have to pay £8 per day.
The Seaview is missing fresh flowers and other touches, which suggests the owners aren't on top of every detail. It doesn't look or smell fresh; the restaurant carpet for example at breakfast looked like it had remnants of dinner from the night before on it, and the pillows in our room were neck-achingly hard.
I read a really nice review of the Seaview in Alistair Sawday's, and I get the feeling that whoever refurbished the building is no longer there, it just isn't quite 100%. However, it is a lovely spot and the staff are more than happy and helpful, the food is good, and all in all there is enough formality to keep it feeling worthwhile a stay - they just perhaps don't have the same vision or attention to detail.

Room Tip: Lovely big rooms in the annex, though not part of the same old building - they are very quiet howeve...

We are very glad that you had an enjoyable stay and really appreciate your feedback. Raising issues provides us with an opportunity to address and improve, and for that we are grateful.

The carpet you referred to was cleaned only a few days ago, I acknowledge it was overdue but this was as a result of scheduling issues which I may add is not an excuse, as it should have been addressed prior to your stay.

In every room we do have a welcome letter that provides information including pillow or duvet preference, where the drawing room is, local transport, tide times etc, We have a variety of pillows, some guests prefer hard others soft - if you had called down to reception we could have found suitable ones for you. We take note of your comments and will see if we can improve communication in this regard. All we want to do is make sure you have an enjoyable stay and if given the opportunity we will always endeavour to address any and all issues raised.

There is a drawing room on the first floor with an idylic view over the Solent - I apologise that this was not pointed out to you upon checking in.

Thank you for all the positive feedback about the food and service. We do have a new head chef, Alan Staley, who is widely considered to be one of the best chefs on the island. He has consistently achieved 2 AA rosettes over 16 years.

All issues that you have raised will be discussed thoroughly.

We do hope that you return.

Best wishes

Just come back from lovely short break staying in the Vault Suite - very spacious conversion of an old Lloyds Bank next door. Kids loved sleeping in a real vault with it's heavy door! There was also a nice sitting area for us to relax and have a pre-dinner drink in. Bathroom smallish but adequate for our needs. Dinner in the Pump bar was lovely - delicious pork special and house burgers were devoured. I ate the Crab ramekin for lunch before heading home - it was sensational, still thinking about it actually. Do wish we could have stayed longer. Bit depressed to be home and busy now planning when we can get back. A good place for Mummy R&R!

Thank you for taking time to post your review, it's much appreciated. The Old Bank was once voted the prettiest bank in England and we are glad you felt 'safe' and comfortable in the vault suite.

There's always a lot to do on the island all year round and we hope you come to regard the Seaview as your very own coastal retreat.

With very best wishes

Small and perfectly formed, we've been coming here off and on for 15 years. It's right on the beach, the staff are extremely obliging and the menu quite adventurous. Perhaps because things are done consistently well, with a range of bars and restaurants, it's more pricey than most of the island, but we think think it's worth it, because it just takes you back to your childhood every time. Great with dogs too!

Room Tip: There's a good choice of rooms, but the Newcombe suite picks up the air conditioning unit noise...
