“Good for lunch or dinner”
Reviewed April 9, 2014

We were staying at the Lakeside Park Hotel and Spa and this pub is about 5 minutes drive up the road. We went at 7.30 p.m.on a Monday evening for dinner and found a couple of family groups finishing their meal and a decent sprinkling of couples of all ages at various stages of their meals. Several small groups and couples arrived after us, providing a good atmosphere and plenty of business for what is usually a pretty dead night. I had a beautifully cooked duck and mushroom dish - even the vegetables were cooked to perfection - and plenty of sauce. And all dairy free, essential as I have an allergy. My husband had two starters - IOW smoked salmon and potted shrimps, which he really enjoyed. The wine list is unusual so we indulged a trip down memory lane with a bottle of Fitou, last drunk in southern France over 20 years ago. So different but enjoyable. Wanting to catch the ferry the following day, we stopped here for lunch and again the place was pleasantly populated, service impeccable and food delightful. If this place was over the water in Poole, we would be regular visitors and will go back if we ever visit the IOW again.

Room Tip: We only ate there but the location is excellent and I imagine the service would be too.

Needed three rooms for an overnight stay to attend a family event in Newport and we were so glad we found The Fishbourne.
A few days before arrival I had a phone call to ask if there was anything they could do to make our stay more comfortable, which I thought was a nice personal touch.
I had pre-warned them that if possible we would need a room to change and freshen up on arrival as we would have been on the road since 5.30am.
We arrived around 10am to find that all three rooms were available to us. Check in was very friendly and we felt genuinely welcome.
The bar and restaurant area was lovely, modern but cosy.
We had lunch and the menu and service was very good.
The rooms were light and airy, very clean and comfortable, all the extras of a big hotel plus an ipod dock/charger - an amenity normally only reserved for the poshest of hotels! And... curtains with blackout linings!! Woo! Very impressed.
The largest room had a lovely view of the Solent and not a ferry terminal in sight.
Breakfast next day was cooked to order with quality ingredients from a varied menu and again service couldn't be faulted.

To sum up: convenient quiet location, very friendly, great food and service, comfortable rooms with homely touches decorated in the 'new england' seasidey style, and a really nice bar area
Another big plus was the time it took us to get to the ferry terminal on our last morning - seconds!!

Would definitely stay here next time we go to the Isle of Wight, but even if you don't stay here I would recommend to use as a place to stop and have breakfast/lunch or coffee and snacks before going onto the ferry.
A little gem.

Visited the Fishbourne Inn midweek for dinner and had a thoroughly enjoyable meal. Good value, good service, comfortable clean surroundings, staff very helpful, will definitely be back in the very foreseeable future.

We met a friend here on our way back to the ferry. It was surprisingly smart as it is virtually in the back yard of the busy ferry terminal.
We only had a drink but enjoyed the comfortable sofa and easy chairs and read the papers until our friend arrived.Several people seemed to be resident and one couple had their large Labrador with them.
Spacious terrace.
Did not see a menu.
We will certainly pay a longer visit when next on the island.

It is some time, nearly nine years I think, since we've been back to the Fishbourne Inn and it has changed a lot from cosy pub with a few lunchtime dishes to a vast barn of a place with a really wide and varied menu. Did not stay there as we were on our way home from Shanklin and needed to eat quick to catch the ferry crossing. Although the dining area was packed my wife negotiated a small table near the front and we spotted a brilliant idea of having what the menu described as a "small rump steak and chips" for a reduced price (naturally). The head barman kindly informed us this was a good choice as it could be prepared speedily (even though Jennifer prefers her steam cremated) and sure enouigh the service was quick and efficient. One female waitess spent the whole time we were there jogging from table to table. That's a bit unsettling but food was good, the welcome was as friendly as it could be considering how many people the staff had to deal with on a Sunday at around 1 pm. And the barman took the trouble as we left to wish us a pleasant journey. I remember with a smile how the place used to be when it was cosy and small but life moves on and at least they've retained some of the character. Apart from the expensive wine mark-up (which is now an irritatingly normal practice in pubs) the meal was a very fair price. If there had been a "Good" category I would have marked it thus. Please, Trip Advisor will you provide a Good one ?!

We arrived on the IOW to be welcomed by The Fishbourne Inn was pleased with our choice of stay , the room choosen was as nice as the photos. We had a seaview to the Fishbourne Ferry Port which was a interest for us. We was always greeted with a smiling staff especially Richard who always helped us with good advice on food choice .We both loved the breakfast and evening meal, tasted fresh and presented beautifully. We had a great time and are looking to go back eagerly again in October. The only negative qas no bath in room 503 ,TV to small in our opinion should be better placed centre above (dec ) fireplace.bed in front to enjoy the seaviews and TV . All in all we had a wonderful time spent on the enchanting IOW .

Unfortunately I can't comment on the standard and quality of the food, as we didn't stay there long enough to try any of it.

We stopped by on a wet Tuesday night at 20.00 hrs in February, a night when the restaurant was not even half full. However The restaurant staff tried to stick us on a small table with rock hard chairs. On asking to be moved to any one of three or more tables that were there with soft seating we were told that they were saving them in case a large crowd came in. I hope they did get a crowd as they immediately lost us as customers.

The Pub needs to remember that restaurants on the IOW are two a penny, and in February all are desperate for customers. Not addressing customers needs is poor customer service that should be urgently addressed.
