“Great accomodation quiet resort - lovely”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

We were on a cheap sun holiday and were returning holiday makers having been here 5 years previously. The villas were great with 2 bedrooms and an en suite to the main bedroom. We overlooked the woods and it was a very enjoyable holiday. The swimming pool was very good and if you had small children under 5 the inside play barn was fab. The bar was unfortunately not that good and was closed on our last night and it was only 8.30p.m and there is not a shop on site but a very well equipment shop was just down the road. There was a great pub about a mile away that overlooked the beach and solent the menu was very good so good we went back a couple of times. I can see that this holiday is not that good if you have older children but they are slowly improving things. I would recommend this holiday to couples and anyone that wants a chillout break. There is decking to the outside with table and chairs. We had a great holiday and look forward to coming back hopefully when there has been a bit more improvement to the resort.

Room Tip: bring as much food as you can to avoid having to go shopping when you get there

After reading reviews, expected the worse. Reviews are correct upon driving onto site, it looks untidy! Stayed in a 3 bed villa ( bungalow), with a hot tub. The villa was spacious, well equipped, very nice to have a dishwasher ( no washing up to do). Lovely en-suite, Great for grandparents. Beds made up. Great Hot Tub ( definitely made the accommodation), very private situated, hot on arrival, ready to use anytime. Staff at reception very helpful, on directions, showing us round pool area. Which was very clean, changing rooms immaculate, staff provide armbands, floats for grandchildren. Did not use gym, but looked well equipped. Grandchildren went on one activity, which was well supervised.
Downside ; Beds not that great, but ok for a weeks stay. TV, quite old, but has preview, DVD player. To be fair, did not watch it a lot, as out and about.
No shop on site, but took enough supplies, and visited supermarket in ryde, about 10 miles away.
All in all had a very pleasant week here. Nice place to return to after days out.
Location is rural, set in woodlands, but as Island is small, you are never to far from the sea.

For the life of me i can't understand why some people are slating this place the villas are spacious comfortable and in a nice setting this is the second time we've stopped here. The staff are friendly and The site was clean and tidy. The bar closes at 9 and there is no entertainment line up but for us this didn't pose a problem. It's an ideal base to enjoy the island from. If you want to get plastered and leave your children running wild under the supervision of a bunch of 18 year olds dressed as teddy bears this is not the place for you! We will definitely return here again.

Our first experience is that we booked a sun holiday with them and my parents were booking the same place, on their website booking form it asks how many pets so as my mum wished to bring her dog I was happy to book.

Once payment has been made we received a letter saying that no pets were allowed! I called and was told by a rude worker that there was no manager and they wouldn't give me my money back and there was nothing I could do, when I asked for a manager to call me the staff member said there is no point.

I called back the next week to speak to the manager and got the assistant manager who was more reasonable and apologised and explained more. She offers us departure breakfasts as good will.

So we went and the brick built apartments were excellent! Showers, a veranda and the decor was lovely. The facilities were nice except for the staff again who walked around with a constant frown, especially the man who served us breakfast who returned none of our thanks. The breakfast was good but not excellent.

Overall a 4/5 due to the staff but everything with regard to the apartments was excellent.

We travelled to Gunard Pine using a national newspaper deal. I expected basic but was pleasantly surprised with the 3 bedroom lodge that we were allocated. Disappointingly, the carpets were filthy and we actually asked for a hoover to do them ourselves! Once clean, the lodge was cosy with central heating and spacious. Lovely and quiet and even a glimpse of the sea through the trees! The lodges could use some tlc, gaps in the floor in the toilet, door rotting, mattresses could do with being replaced but with a little money and better cleaning they could be really nice. The brick built lodges as you drive into the park are predominantly privately owned and some are in a poor state which spoils the first impression.
Staff are very very helpful - any problems were resolved very quickly - no complaints there.
The indoor pool, gym and health suite (Jacuzzi and sauna) were very good - ladies changing rooms particularly so.
Wish we'd found the walk to Gunard and onto Cowes earlier in the weekend as its a lovely walk!

Room Tip: 410 is very clean right now as we cleaned it!

This resort have our initial payment (paid in Jan) but have today written to confirm they have cancelled our booking a week before we are due to arrive! More than unhelpful staff to help rectify, when we complained we were told "take it as high as you like but you wont get anywhere". It appears as we booked on a deal they cancelled us to offer to a higher bidder because they are now fully booked! We have 2 very upset children, and a ferry booking we can't use. No refund allowed either apparently, thanks for ruining our May bank holiday...

We have just returned after a three nights holiday in this park. It was our 2nd visit to Gurnard Pines as we were quite impressed during our stay in 2007. However, I must say that standards of this park has been declined since then. The 3 bed bunglow was quite spacious but equipped with all cheap accessories. The TV was one of the oldest model available with faulty remote. There were not enough crockeries for six people. Bed side table lamps were broken, bed mattresses was awful, even the vaccuam cleaner was not working. The park has excellent swimming facily with heated inside pool, jacuzzi, sauna etc which we thoroughly enjoyed on a rainy day. The check in was quite smooth and reception staffs were very polite, however the staff in the cafe should be trained on how to behave with the customers. Altogether it was not a plesant stay as we had in 2007 though Isle of Wight as a place is definitely worth visiting again and again.

Room Tip: Don't forget to bring toilet rolls, kitchen towels, oven gloves, bath mats, frying pans, bin bag...
