“A Pleasant Site”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

My partner and I stayed here for 5 days in May 2013, we found the accommodation and site spotless. The site itself is well kept and has all the amenities you would expect to find on a holiday park. 2 bars, an entertainment room and an arcade. Laundrette and a site shop which sold everything you required if at slightly increased prices. The only complaint(?) we would have is that some of the arcade games are clearly fairly old and not well maintained. The location is ideal for exploring the island, so long as you have a car! Situated on a bay with a sandy beach it is quite idyllic. We stayed outside of any half terms so very few families and this leant itself to having a relaxing, quiet stay.

We returned from a short break at Thorness Bay yesterday. The caravan we stayed in was very clean, well equipped with lots of wardrobe space, and the heating was fantastic. Great facilities.. I had a minor complaint regarding use of facilities, but this was dealt with quickly and to my satisfaction. What made this holiday was the entertainment team... Georgie runs a great team, and always had a big smile on her face, Lyndsey with her bags of energy and enthusiasm, Sam again with bags on energy and always time for a laugh with the children (and adults), Mitchell and Nicky with their great singing voices - happy to stop and chat when bumping into on park, and of course wee Emily - all she wanted to do was sing a song bless her. The whole team are fantastic and they obviously really enjoy their jobs... Can't wait to go back in September.

i read the reviews befour i went and thought it was people just being picky, sadly i can confirm this place is pretty awfull. for starters i booked a gold plus caravan as ive had a few shockers in the past when booking cheaper vans, all i can say is expect to be extremly disapointed, caravan no where near gold standard and i would`nt have rated above a silver if you were lucky. i complained to reception who passed it onto to the rudest member of staff i have ever met who didnt want to do anything and continued to say " you booked a gold caravan and thats what you`ve got, its the manufacture that grades the caravans". so as you can see from the offset instead of helping and apoligiseing for my appauling quality van instead she blamed someone else. i asked to speak to the general park manager who never botherd to contact me. then about half hour later the same rude lady knocked on our door and said she would show us another van.... all looked good at first and we gladly moved into another van... when we started to unpack we found half lights didnt work in the van the all the living room area raidiators didnt work and the bedding was damp and had a vile stench to which we removed and once again complained. nothing was done apart from the bedding replaced. the van in general had a horrible damp dog smell the was extremly unpleaseant - not to mention the cost of scented candels to get rid of it! if you wanted some entertainment look elsewhere as this is exeptionaly bad - i know park entertainment is uselly not great but belive me - these people were`nt even in tune! the park resturant is the only plus with some stunning views across the bay - but prices for quality of food recieved is not great. overall i certainly would never return here and as for complaint handling its shocking - i will be sending a writen complaint as i certainly did not enjoy a much needed holiday.

We recently stayed at Thorness bay for a long weekend (Fri - Mon) and have to save was a little bit disappointed. After arriving we took a look at the iteneray to see what was happening and when and made arrangements around that. We chose to take the kids swimming to learn that the pool was actually closed to "free swimming" and had activities schedule but the leaflet advised otherwise. With two disappointed children (5 & 6) we choose to visit the park for an hour or so to kill a little bit of time, which was a good size with football pitches / basket courts to suit all ages around it. Once we were able to get in the pool the kids loved it, thought the slide was amazing and very difficult to get them off it.
The caravan we stayed in was very clean and couldn't fault it one bit and worked very well for us with a short walk to the club house.
The entertainment although is the same structure throughout Park resorts, it was a little tiring. The girls weren't really that enthusiastic and did seem to struggle at times, luckily the kids didn't really understand but compare to other parks on the Island it could have been much better.
The biggest shock was the price of drinks! Unbelievable. A few examples...
Newcastle Brown Ale (Bottle) - £4.55
Kids Fruit Shoot - £1.95
Vodka and Orange - £4.80 (I think from memory).
Lager (pint £3.70)
The above prices above are more expensive that the local pubs! The food was ok, most of it was microwave stuff which generally you would expect in a place like that. The actual club house could have been given a facial lift with the carpets and seating looking old and in some areas dirty. The WiFi never worked throughout our stay which in this day and age is not great but not the end of the world. If you want to watch the sports on the TV you need to go to the Lodge Bar through the main reception as you drive in, as once your down by the main club house it's not advertise at all and didn't know it was there until the last day.
Apart from the price of the bar drinks, the park on the whole was ok although I'm not sure if I would stay at Thorness bay again, there are better Park Resorts on the Island.

Room Tip: Everyone budget is different I do accept that, however try to upgrade if possible as the basic vans...

Hello

Thank you for your positive feedback on the whole. The leisure guide provided in the welcome pack does list all the pool times and activities and I apologise if this was not the case although I am happy that you were able to entertain the children on the sports court until you could get them in the pool and glad that they were able to enjoy the pool slide as well.

The entertainment is a set style and the cabarets do add variation to this and I am sorry if the execution of the program was not as good as it usually is. The bar pricing is out of the parks hands however we do also have promotional offers to try to reduce the cost for a family.

The sports are shown in the Lodge Bar, where check in takes place, as we were receiving complaints from diners when football matches were on and, there are advertising boards and all the Team in the main complex are aware if asked, although I will look into some additional areas to advertise this. Unfortunately our location does not benefit from good signals for internet or phones although we have replaced the router to try and improve.

This is the second year running we have stayed at this site. We had a caravan that was perhaps not as well equipped and sited as last year, but it was clean, adequately equipped and the beds were comfortable. In all the family had three vans this year at the same time and the general view is its ok given what you pay. No its not the Ritz, but neither is the price in the same league. we were well served for what we paid, the bars were ok and the food being served seemed reasonable for the prices advertised. Some work has been done on the pool and play areas and they are better than last year. We had one or two minor issues in the vans, but these were put right the same day. All in all a good week.

Room Tip: if you can afford it book a van in one of the higher grades and not the base level

We have just returned home from 5 days at thorness bay, an I have to say we were very pleased, after initially being worried from reading other reviews left by people, we were on edge. However when we got there we had a trailer on Solent breeze, our trailer was exceptionally clean and more than big enough for 5 of us. We had declined the parks linen and took our own, however when we got there the beds had been made up for us and the sheets were spotless. The pool was also good, it was shallow enough for my 8 year old to stand up in, and was also clean , which meant we did not always have to go in with the children. We did not visit the clubhouse , preferring to stay in, the bar was reasonably priced and I have to say all staff were friendly and very helpful. All in all we could not fault the park at all

Room Tip: If you like quiet ask for the Solent breeze, but be prepared it is up a big hill

We stayed in a Gold plus caravan for 4 nights Monday- Friday in May 2013. The caravan was clean and what you might expect space wise for a caravan. The living area was large and could accommodate 8 people. What lets it down is the lack of things such as side lights, hooks on the back of doors or having anywhere in the rooms to put anything e.g cosmetics. Beds very uncomfortable, but I am pregnant, and were manageable for 4 nights. The crockery was awful- no sharp knife or non- stick pan. Not enough glasses for 8 and crockery didn't match- I know a some small points but I wonder what a bronze caravan would have!?

Overall we enjoyed our stay and used the caravan as a bolt-hole. Location was good- relatively rural. We didn't bring children so imagine that the entertainment would be a great bonus for families. We ate at the clubhouse once and food was good, although had to eat amongst very strong chlorine smell from the pool next door. We were in Solent Breeze area of the park and this was at the top and was quiet and secluded. Some of the other parts of the park were much more congested with caravans.

We may return next year and try out Nodes Point.

Hello Emma,

I am sorry that you were not completely happy with the Gold Plus caravan, these do vary in layout with the different models. The inventory should all have been there so I will look into this although we would have brought the missing items around for you.

I am glad that you found the location and setting good and that the food was of a good standard and we now ensure the door to the pool is kept closed as much as possible so the smell is no longer wafting through.

I look forward to seeing you again in the future.
