“Good family place and value for money”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2012

Thorness bay is a nice enough place, right on the beach although its more of a pebble seaweed beach... The entertainment is good if u like the loud butlins style thing.. However the drinks are very very expensive, there is a shop on site and that is very very expensive actually unbelievable the prices they charge! If you do stay here DO NOT eat at the resturant although it says 2 meals 4 a certain price you could cook somthing up better with a log fire and a cauldron lol! Disgusting value for money however its a peaceful place and the caravans r lovely so I would stay here again as there are enough supermarkets to stock up! And eat out in the town not the muck they serve!

2 adults 2 children to stay in gold caravan in Bluebell, check in time was 4pm we arrived on time only to wait until 5.40pm to be allowed in the caravan. The two ladies on desk had no help from manager what so ever and had to deal with everyone shouting and complaining, while he sat in the back office! The reason behind being late was the vans were being cleaned. our caravan had no beds made it was dirty and the smell was awful. There was mould all over the windows, curtains, and up the walls, so quite confused as to what they were cleaning exactly ! The shower was so hot at times we couldnt use it my son actually got burnt under it, we reported it to reception each day and nothing got sorted ! Awful place could have spent £300 somewhere else !

Room Tip: Dont bother book somewhere else

Me and my family have just returned from a weeks holiday at Park Resorts Thorness bay on the isle of wight and what a fantastic time we all had, we stayed in a bronze caravan which was very clean and comfortable for a family. From the pool to the entertainment and the coastal path to the beach we would reccomend this site to anyone, especially those with children. ours are 11, 6 and 2 and there was something for all of them to do, my eldest loved the basketball court and we all loved the pool, although could maybe do with some improving, including more changing rooms and larger shower room but none the less it was clean and very well manned. Staff are very friendly and the site very clean, will be going again!

OMG! Horredous; awful; dirty; falling apart, the list goes on. We booked the holiday through the Mail with Park Resorts and upgraded (lol) to a Luxury Plus caravan! On arrival, the caravan wasn't big enough as we had requested one with two bedrooms and 4 beds (not including the sofa bed). Only 3 beds! Reception staff were surely, and rude, muttering under their breath about how the caravan adequately sleeps 5. Gave us a new caravan so we could put the children to bed in a bedroom. However on arrival at thIs one, the sofa was falling apart and couldn't be sat on, the electric towel rail in the bathroom was coming off the wall, there was no blind in the bathroom, and no coat hangers in any of the wardrobes! The caravan smelt musty and mouldy and the fire was working in the living room. Went back to reception, to be treated with utter contempt, and spoken to like dirt in a truely condesending way! The duty manager was awful and needs to either be sacked or sent on a customer relations course. Eventually a maintenance man was sent to the caravan to fix all the problems, to be fair he was brilliant and really did a great job to make the place inhabitable. However our views of Thorness Bay Park were by now tainted for good. In addition to all the above, on the 3rd day of the holiday, my 5 year old daughter went swimming and cut her foot on the bottom of the children's pool. When my husband went to the life guard about it, their response was to say that they had had a few instances of people cutting themselves on the filter cap! Obviously they had done nothing about this and find it totally acceptable for children to cut their feet open. MY ADVICE IS TO STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS, I WOULD NOT GO BACK IF THEY OFFERED ME A FREE STAY AND A MILLION POUNDS.

I booked 2 caravans on Thorness Park both bronze. When we arrived one caravan had been up graded to silver which I gave to my in-laws. They were quite please with their caravan however we bitterly disappointed with ours. It was in the Bluebell zone and very difficult to get to with all our luggage as there are no paths to walk on and we found it very slippery walking on the mud as it had been raining. When going into the caravan the smell was horrible and it was immediately clear it had not been cleaned to any standard. My husband went striaght back to the reception and had to complain. They wanted to point out we had only booked a bronze caravan but like my husband stated if you advise a bronze caravan as ....'it smells,it won't be cleaned, there will be mould in the bathroom and on the window seals, the net curtains will have chocolate hand marks on them, old matches will be left around the fireplace, the sinks and taps wont be cleaned....the list is endless!!!....who the hell would waste their time and money, traveling and booking it???? They finally moved us to another caravan and this was much better, however when you have problems like this it does upset the mood of short break away. Would we book at Thorness again.......No. Sorry Thorness Park ....some nice staff but the park really needs to sort out the cleaners and make access to the caravans much much safer!!!!

Arrived on Easter Monday during a torrential downpour, only to be greeted by surly and aggressive staff at reception. Allocated caravan only had beds for three people, and as we have two small children this wasn't acceptable. When queried at reception we received a variety of answers, ranging from "housekeeping must have taken the fourth one out for a cot for previous occupants" (don't know where the fourth bed would go due to lack of space) to "that caravan adequately sleeps five due to sofa bed in lounge" (not too bad if your party is all adults who go to bed at the same time, not so good with two children). Eventually moved to a different deathtrap, sorry caravan, but discovered a list of problems a mile long. Again, reported to reception and was told that "we could have told them about it earlier". Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the site was responsible for repairs to the accomodation, and shouldn't need to rely on holidaymakers to tell them. Especially as we had issues such as a heated towel rail coming off the wall and no blinds in the shower room.
The evening entertainment kept the kids happy and the Isle of Wight is a fantastic place to visit (and we will again), but we will definately not be using Park Resorts again, nor will we recommend them to anyone. AVOID!!

Room Tip: Don't bother

Great little site, super location. All utilities super clean. Evening entertainment fun for all the family. Indoor pool could do with improving but all other facilities were to a very good standard.
