“Solent view”

A pleasant evening meal with friends.
Had vouchers so went for set 3 course menu.
3 of party opted for same dishes throughout, pate, pork - which replaced the steak with a £4 supplement followed by chocolate brownie
Pate was light, pork delicious and brownies with ice cream very nice.
I as THE veggie was limited to a choice of one starter, one main and as I don't eat chocolate one dessert too.
soup ( cant remember what now), but was tasty after it had cooled down a bit, thought accompanying bread was a bit dry though
butternut squash with blue cheese crumble and a walnut salad. - Whilst tasty could have done with a bit more blue cheese, the squash was cooked well, the salad was a salad with walnuts - do chefs ever try to eat walnuts with a knife and fork?
my dessert the lemon posset with popping corn - delicious.
All dishes well presented
The service was good but as a very quiet night would expect anything else.
The view to solent is a good bonus day or night and makes this restaurant worth trying
It was cold in there so hope it gets heating on as it gets colder outside.

“Not really sure”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

A quick walk of Cowes showed this to be the only real English restaurant, as opposed to pub or cafe. The exterior is imposing, having a period charm and interesting maritime view.Menus and deals are traditionally displayed outside.
The interior invokes a much older period, maybe 1930s, with widely spaced furniture and plant decor.
The cliental, on the day were in smart casuals, an aspirational, upmarket place to eat ?
Service was very attentive, the jug of water came quickly and upon ordering, we were advised of a ten minute wait. Clearly though, time passes more slowly here and it took more like thirty minutes.
The food was good, albeit not piping hot.My fried Cod shared a plate with the salad, with the chips in a separate bowl. The " homemade " tartar sauce tasted like anybodies, so I guess someone copied a recipe! The fish was slightly greasy, but OK.
My wife chose Salmon, with mussels in a sauce.Tasty she said.
Our bill came to about £25 and it also showed a 10% tip added , which we had to deduct; so we did.
I think we could have eaten cheaper and as well. Our experience was not enhanced by shouting from the kitchen and the washer -up leering from an open door.
We thought the lunch might have been special, an end of holiday treat, but somehow, it did not quite measure up.
A triumph of posing over food??
