“Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

Last Sunday 3rd March we decided to go the the New Holmwood for Lunch. We had not booked and the restaurant was full. The waitress asked us if we would like to eat in the lounge over looking the Solent. The three course meal was delicious the service was excellent, a perfect Sunday afternoon . We shall be eating there again very soon.

A great hotel right on the water overlooking the Solent. I stayed on night in February and was very pleasantly surprised. In my experience Best Westerns can be a bit hit and miss, but in Europe seem to be more consistent and of higher quality. I was welcomed at reception and shown personally to my room. All the areas of the hotel I saw (reception, dining room and bedroom) were elegantly appointed and very clean with contemporary designs and great views.

The bedroom was large and well laid out. The bed was a true king (rare for UK) and very comfortable with a good range of pillows from soft to firm and both down and hyper-allergenic, all topped with a mint and turn-down service! Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, with attentive staff. Checkout was quick and accurate and overall I was very happy with the New Holmwood and plan on staying here should my travels take me to the Isle of Wight.

Most best westerns I have stayed have been a bit grubby and run down. This was clean tidy and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Good value for money and the bonus being a nice short walk into east cowes.

I stayed at the Hotel for a few nights over several weeks whilst working on the Island. The Management and staff are all extremely friendly and I would strongly recommend you consider this Hotel if looking for somewhere to stay in Isle of Wight. The food offers great value for money and is extremely tasty. Can't say I had one bad meal while there. Hotel also offers free wi fi, which a lot of chains don't.

Room Tip: Maybe try for a ground floor room, but just not room 1, which is right next to the kitchen and I dou...

It's always a pleasure to stay here, staff very pleasant and food and situation very good. Had great sea view from room 20 with lots of interesting ships going up and down the Solent. Room was slightly cold but not unbearable.

To be recommended, Christmas day lunch was excellent, an interesting menu to suit all tastes, the chef presented the meal beautifully, the waiters worked hard and the management were professional but friendly (as usual ). Beautifully dressed tables, the crackers were a very good standard and the little extras were a nice touch. Book early (we have booked already for 2013) as they are very busy. The hotel itself is cosy, intimate, homely, nicely furnished with lovely seaviews. I have not used the bedrooms but no doubt they would be of the same standard. Please try this hotel other than at Christmas time as its sensibly priced and has a good standard and very welcoming.

We visit the Isle of Wight regularly to visit family and usually stay in Sandown but this time stayed in Cowes as we were attending a wedding. The hotel, while a little dated in places, was clean, well maintained and comfortable. Breakfast was of a good quality and very filling. The thing that really sets this hotel apart, however, is the quality of service from the staff. Nothing was too much trouble, we really felt welcomed and treated as valued guests.
