“great carbonara”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

a lovely little restaurant in a peaceful area in Isle of w. it is in the middle of no where (as i am a city girl) but it is a great place for lunch or a cup of coffee after exploring the area.
i had a carpaccio which was very delicate.but the crap Linguini was a bit fishy although been checked that it was fresh from the day...however my friend ordered the homemade pasta carbonara was great!! couldn't get enough it! it's not a heavy dish as all. and panna cotta was as it should be! yum.
the 2 ladies were very friendly, when i mentioned i didn't really enjoy the crap linguini, she offered me free of charge of my glass of wine.
overall the food is a bit over priced for me.

“Great food but....”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

This is a lovely restaurant which looks very warm and welcoming.
There with two friends from the Isle of Wight who had been before, the flavor of the food is fantastic but the size of the portions are very small, especially the main courses, I had the crab linguine which was very small indeed and cost £17!! I don't mind paying for good quality food but i don't expect to leave a restaurant feeling hungry.
Such a shame could be fantastic if they would only sort out there portion size.

“Very peaceful, good food”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

Very tranquil setting, with a comfortable interior and some outdoor seating overlooking the pond if the weather is good. The service was great; attentive without being intrusive, friendly, informative and the newer staff member more than willing to go and find out answers to anything she didn't know.

It's not cheap, but is well priced for the standard. However, the standards are inconsistent, with some dishes being exceptional and others falling short of expectations, so whether you are satisfied or not may depend on this (possibly hence the mixed reviews). Starters were universally good at our table, but desserts universally unimpressive. The mackerel and carbonara mains were great, but the crab linguine disappointed and the pigeon was found wanting by all. All the side dishes were impressively tasty for such simple ingredients, with the IOW tomatoes and the peas with pancetta stand-outs, even impressing the two members of our party that don't eat peas normally. Wine is good value too.

Overall, we'd definitely go back but would choose our dishes carefully. If you get some of the star dishes the restaurant becomes a bargain, but choose wrongly and you may feel it's over-rated (in our group of 4 there was a 50/50 split on these viewpoints).
