“Tasty Birthday meal for 6”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

Allegedly the chef at the Grand Junction Arms trained up Heston Blumental and it shows in the overall presentation and inventiveness of the food here.

We had one hi-cup with a starter which was supposed to be a goats cheese mouse but was more 3 small balls of goats cheese, which to be fair if you are going to serve the cheese at least serve up a decent portion.

Mains were excellent, nice variety through from Turbot on new potatoes, to Haddock and chips, Roasted pork belly and black pudding mash through to a delicious home made beef burger on a brioche bun.

Deserts were also tasty of note was the chocolate torte (pure indulgence) with popcorn panacotta served with a salty caramel sauce, yum! A nice touch was the complimentary slice of cheese cake for the Birthday girl, nice touch.

We'll go back when the weather improves and have Sunday Burgers by the canal! Note the phone line is a bit patchy at the pub, just turn up and you'll get a table!

“Understaffed”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

On a Sunday afternoon I queued for 15 minutes for drinks. Two people were serving. I also ordered a portion of chips to be served outside. I waited approx. 40 minutes and was served 9 chips in a small bowl costing £3.00. Not worth the wait...not reasonable value and not good service.

“What a pleasant evening!”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Spur of the moment last summer, decided to drive out and find a pub by a river/canal, for an early dinner.

We were not at all disappointed, the place was very busy, and there was a short wait for food, but it was well worth the wait.

Beautiful setting by the canal, but fenced so it was safe for the children to enjoy the play area.
Food was fantastic and locally sourced. The service was good, considering how busy it was.

Will definitely be returning this summer.

“The best pub in the area during summer”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Fantastic food, decent prices. Great selection of drinks and brilliant staff along with a very warm atmosphere. What a spot this is in summer, sitting outside by the canal in the massive beer garden. One of my favorite pubs for sure. I cant stop going back.

“Good food - not enough staff”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

Ate here one Friday evening late in February. We were with friends and everybody agreed their meals were good although we were dissapointed that there was no fresh fish available on the blackboard. The only thing that spoiled the evening was the shortage of staff. The three girls working were very busy but did not have enough time to give the diners the service that was needed. We went to the bar on arrival to get drinks but after a short wait were asked to go to our table where an order would be taken; it was, but only after a 10 minuet wait, then another wait for the drinks to be served, we had to go to the bar to ask someone to take our food order as nobody seemed to have time at the table. At no point during the evening did any staff have time to ask if we needed more drinks. We went to the bar to get drinks but on every occasion had to wait as staff were busy serving meals. The place did not seem full, what they need is a full time bar man, we saw people walk out after waiting for attention at the bar for too long, the lack of serving staff must be costing them sales.
