In a quiet lane, this delightful thatched house has been sympathetically extended to provide excellent b&b accommodation. This has been thoughtfully planned and would be ideal for anyone with limited mobility. Ramps in the garden make for easy access and wide doors in the room allow wheelchairs users to move freely.

Our room, overlooking a corner of the garden was comfortably furnished and decorated in restful colours. The bed was comfortable and a hot water bottle was available for the chillier nights.

A built in wardrobe had a mirror inside the door and a chest of drawers - with another mirror - gave ample storage. Along with tea and coffee makingthere was a 'fridge, with fresh milk and a toaster. A bedside cabinet and a couple of whicker chairs completed the furnishings. There were plenty of other thoughtful touches; an extra radiator, magazines, a little torch on the room keyring, a hairdryer and wifi access.

The bathroom, although smallish, was very well equipped with a shower and a range of toiletries.

The owners are a friendly couple and on arrival we were given tea and cake and made to feel very welcome. A local pub, a short drive away was suggested as somewhere to obtain an evening meal. In the morning, a superb cooked breakfast saw us on our way with the feeling that we had received very good value for money. We would certainly hope to stay when next in the area.

We were pleasantly surprised with this B&B. Certainly in a different league to most. The cosy rooms were very clean, comfy and slightly quirky and with great showers. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere (in a good way) but it is a short drive from Hereford or you can walk to a local pub for dinner, we opted for the town where we had an excellent home made pie in the Buckingham Arms.
The owners Lin and Martin were very nice and accommodating and they cooked us an amazing omelette in the morning (using fresh eggs laid by their Chickens) with quality Coffee. They also recommended The Raglan Castle as a place to visit on the way home, which was a surprisingly large Castle ruin at only £3.50 to enter.
We would definitely recommend this quaint little B&B and look forward to returning next time we are in the area.

A most delightful place to stay as it was in such a quiet and peaceful location. The owners were very friendly and made you feel at home straight away. Lin showed us to our room and made sure we were comfortable with everything. There was a good selection of teas, coffees, chocolate drinks and biscuits, also a fridge with fresh milk! It was made all the better by the additional touches of toiletries, tissues and make up remover pads. There was plenty of information for the surrounding area with places to visit and local pubs to eat and drink which we took advantage of!
The breakfast was great. There was a good choice of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts and juice with the lovely full English breakfast. This was an excellent bed and breakfast.

Room Tip: All the rooms were good

We were starting to wonder what we had gotten ourselves into as we drove down the single lane, two way road towards what the GPS had said was The Steppes B&B. There were tall hedges on either side of the narrow lane that limited our view of the countryside except for what was visible of the winding road ahead. Thankfully, the GPS was spot on and a very welcoming sight appeared at the end of the gravel driveway.
Lin, who along with her husband Martin run The Steppes, met us as we pulled into the parking area, she must have heard the crunching of the gravel under the car's tires as we approached. Sheep are pastured on the hill side adjacent to the 500 year old Tudor house that Lin and Martin call home, the guest rooms are located in a tastefully designed structure adjacent to the main house. They also have a collection of chickens which I think provide the eggs for breakfast, as well as a couple of friendly dogs and cats.
Lin greeted us with a warm smile, showed us around the property, got us settled into our room then offered homemade muffins and French press coffee. Our room felt like home and had an excellent view of their backyard garden which includes a Koi pond.
Each morning, breakfast was made to order for us by Lin and Martin and included all of the usual English breakfast items one would expect.
Overall, a welcome change from the box type hotels one typically finds in every town.
Highly recommended, and quite reasonably priced to boot.

|My wife and I stayed for three nights and were made to feel like family of the owners. We were welcomed with freshly brewed tea, cake and biscuits. Even though we only stayed for three nights it was a so relaxing atmosphere it felt as though we had arrived in a different world. Our hosts Lin and Martin could not do enough for us. The room was spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed.
The breakfast was wonderful with fresh eggs from Lin's own chickens. We were spoiled for choice with the number of items on offer.
We were visiting friends who live in a nearby village but this was the first time we have stayed here but it certainly won't be the last. We have stayed in a number of B&B's over the last few years, but none can compare with the Steppes.
We would have liked to have spent some time relaxing in the lovely garden but we were denied this pleasure due to inclement weather. This was the only downside to our stay, but that was obviously out of the control of Lin and Martin.
We only hope that when we next visit our friends, there will be a room available for us here.
Hope to see you both again soon.

Very rarely does something 'do exactly as it says on the tin'...The Steppes was a remarkable experience. Having read the website we were delighted to find out that it was even better.
From the welcome to the point of departure it was a wonderful stay. The location is idyllic, the proximity to Hereford excellent...the rooms absolutely beautiful, clean and attractively furnished...the choice of breakfasts just remarkable. We used to live in Hereford and were visiting family and have stayed at most of the Hotels and B&B's in the area, nothing comes close to The Steppes.
Having now found this truly wonderful oasis we certainly know where to stay on our future visits, my only worry will be getting accommodation, as I am sure as The Steppes becomes known even more, vacancies will be at a premium, and rightly so.
Well done The Steppes and hosts Lin and Martin, may you go from strength to strength.

Room Tip: Just tell Lin what you want...you won't be disappoined.

It was an overnight stay with my wife. The hosts greeted us warmly and brought us tea and cake. The room was very well thought out indeed. I would even say it was the best room we have stayed in to date. And we are in our 50's. The breakfast was perfect and they really do look after you.the garden was nice, and there were a few weeds about the place, but not many really. The local pub had main courses over £10 and worth the money if you eat in that price bracket.

Our overall impression is that our hosts really understand people, like people, and can put themselves in their shoes. We would recommend this place most heartily and you would not be disappointed. The value for money is fine. May 2012.

Room Tip: They all looked excellent to us.
