“Fantastic again”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

Having held our wedding here a year ago we returned for our anniversary. Once again i was very impressed. I love this little hotel for its setting, its friendly welcome and the quaint and quirky building. The food is pretty good too. It is fantastic value for money and I wanted to review it again because it is equally as good this year as it was last.

Room Tip: Top floor in the Mill (there is no lift and they are up a rickety staircase so not suitable for thos...

After just coming back from this quiet and friendly place from a family wedding i had to make sure it was known that we had a superb night and it was worth the money we spent. Derek and his staff was friendly and attentive at all times and even treated our 4 children as little guest instead of running everything through me and my wife.Thank you Derek and staff for being so kid friendly.

Decent sized, clean room; proper breakfast (the type which makes lunch a very optional extra); lovely bar area and good food in the evening. All in a converted mill in a super setting.

And all this for less than staying in the Days Inn up the road and "dining" in McDonalds.

We stayed at Little Hallingbury Mill for three nights - it was good value for money, not expensive. We were in the annexe next door to the Mill itself, room was a good size, would have accommodated two children in bunk beds if required ( but we didn't require!). Decor was a little shabby and the bathroom was a bit basic, but it did the job. Wifi was 'available' in the bedrooms, but the signal was poor. Location was lovely, situated at the end of a small quiet lane next to the canal and a tiny marina. Evening meals were available, good food if a little overpriced. Would recommend and would stay again.

Recently stayed on a 5 day business trip. The welcome from all of the staff was warm & the quiet bar was a nice place to relax after a days work. The food in the bar was excellent & all freshly prepared & home cooked & plenty of choice which is always good. The rooms were OK & probably in need of a bit of TLC but overall excellent value for money & felt like "home" unlike some of the soulless national chains. Location for myself wasn't exactly ideal but it was worth doing the trip. Recommended!!!!!

Spent one night here in August 2013 to meet a friend "half way" for a catch up. Perfect! The hotel is pretty, beautiful grounds and a quiet location. It really is as described on the websites.
Evening meal in restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced. Big choice on the Menu. Breakfast is also excellent.
Kettle for tea/coffee in the rooms. Our twin room had a double and a single bed in although I believe most of the rooms are slightly differently set out.
Hotel staffs are lovely and Derek from Front of House was especially was very helpful when booking.
Highly recommend this hotel. It is especially beautiful in the summer for a "potter about" in the grounds and to have a little outside drink.
This Hotel does is exactly what it says it is and more thus I give it full marks!

Room Tip: Phone and ask reception if you have a specific request, hotel is very accommodating in assisting you...

I recently attended a wedding reception here and it saddens me to say that what should have been an enjoyable occasion was instead marred by one employee. On arriving he was rude to my brother regarding his booking of 3 rooms and was extremely slow in serving.
However the rooms were acceptable with a cupboard sized bathroom and the reception was nicely laid out with excellent food.

Left there that would have been an okay experience. But! At breakfast time the same rude employee (already sporting a black eye, probably from some previous event) was EXTREMELY RUDE to the guests who had stayed overnight. The menus were not on the table, so if anyone asked for a menu he swore as he walked off to get the menu and when he returned with the menu he slammed it down on the table. This was on more than one occasion. If they asked for ANYTHING e.g. sauce they were given the same treatment. He was very sour faced, had no manners or decency about him whatsoever. Okay, he had about 20 people to serve, but no-one was pressuring him for breakfast, all were patiently waiting, for quite some time, but nevertheless they were patiently waiting. If it was too much for him management should arrange for enough staff to be on duty as this event was booked months in advance. One person was given breakfast he asked for sauce, this same person answered him rudely. The man was so disgusted at this behaviour that he got up from the table and left his breakfast untouched.

The conversation at breakfast should have been cheerful, fun conversation as all in the breakfast room were from the wedding party. Instead the conversation was one of anger with the topic of conversation being about the rudeness of this person. It is truly no wonder he was already wearing a black eye and very lucky he was not wearing another to match it because that was the feeling he was generating amongst the guests.

Suffice it to say as long as this person is employee is working at Little Hallingbury Mill I will definitely not be recommending the venue nor staying there again myself. Without this employee it would have been a nice experience.

Room Tip: Higher floors have many steps.
