“Cheap and cheerful”
Reviewed April 18, 2013 via mobile

The place is busy, and ok for a quick cheap carvery. The service was efficient and friendly but the food was a bit of a let down tonight. It is a case of pile it high, sell it cheap. The turkey was too long under the hot light and dry and crumbling. The veg were looking not too appealing, obviously frozen and heated up. The 'carver' was pleasant and efficient. If you are hungry and want a meal that is not fancy and you don't want to linger; and one that is cheap come here.

Excellent meal and value for money. Tasty food with generous roast portions. The restaurant is always busy with a great atmosphere.

“Good value but intrusive music”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is part of the Crown Carveries group. As others have said, the experience of the food depends largely on when you arrive and how long it has been lying under the heated lights. We were lucky as fresh turkey and roast potatoes arrived as we were being served. They were excellent. Conversely, the beef had been there a while and it wasn't all that good.

Subject to the above, value for money is excellent. This venue was reasonably clean too.

One problem we found was the muzak. For some reason this restaurant, in common with many others, wants to impose the sound on you whether you like it or not. Why don't they provide a quiet room for those of us who like to talk?

“Front of house management needed. .”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Been here a few times. . My experience is as follows:. Carvery food ranges from average to good. Depending on what time you visit. And how long it has sat under the heat lamps.. Prices good. . Service and general customer care average to poor.. On last visit we sat in bar area on raised platform area. We were there for over an hour and 2 tables around us were not cleared of dishes, cups etc. . I also wanted two fundamental questions answered regarding food . I asked to speak to a manager. Was told wasnt avaliable. So asked bar staff. Although polite. . Had no answers to 2 very basic questions. Impressions of nobody with any knowledge in charge. That is poor management and not customer focused . So my overall view is decent priced food for food which may be decent or it may not. Pot luck.. Dont expect much regarding front of house management and knowledgable mature staff. There isnt any.

“What you see, is what you get!”

The Gardeners Arms is great value for money, you can enjoy a no hassle roast lunch. The food is hot (but depends on the time you visit) as it is served carvery style. There is a good choice of meats and sides, which you can help yourself to, this was very popular with my children. My son with aspergers enjoys eating here because there are quite places to sit, away from to much noise and activity. There will be no one fussing over you, but the staff are helpful when approached.
