The Three Horseshoes is a large pub in which most of the seating, and there is much of it, is predominently for dining. The tables are mix and match, without tablecloths, but there is an at table waiting service, rather than having to order at the bar.
I have eaten here many times and report only one meal in that time which did not achieve a satifactory standard. That was a Sunday lunch, at the tail end of service on what had been an exceedingly busy day. Given the quality of food that I have had here before and since, I think they might be forgiven.
On this occasion, a Friday lunchtime, the pub was again very busy, but service was efficient and timely enough for those returning to work after lunch. I had the seared tuna nicoise, which is The Shoes own take on the classic. The dish had just the right amount of beans, olives and egg but the star is the tuna. It comprises a fillet of tuna which has indeed been seared and then sliced, so that you get the visual delight of the cooked outside contrasting with the pink inside. My wife had salmon and crayfish pasta which she reported as very good.
The menu has something for everyone, including some great steak burgers, and is supplemented by a usually quite extensive, specials board. This regularly features chicken caesar, which they do particularly well, but was absent on this visit. I would also recommend the oak smoked bacon on bubble and squeak
with poached egg and hollandaise; delightful and available as starter or main.
The pub, or should I say, restaurant with a bar, also has a large garden in which you may dine.
