“Wonderful day in the country”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

You just cant spend enough time at this castle! We spent almost 5 hours and barely got to see any of the insides. The grounds are beautiful and the entertainment provided is excellent for all ages! I would definately reccommend buying the ticket that gets you into all the different areas it was well worth the money. The inside exhibits were interesting and well laid out. I only wish we had spent more time there and seen more! Definately a day trip!

“Great way to spend a day with children”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

Visited with a friend and her young children. The gardens are lovely with a good number of things for the children to play with. They loved the maze, tunnel and waterfall and the riverside walk. The castle itself was fun - mainly because of a great guide - however, a lot of the artefacts are not original or relevant to the castle (added late 1900's by American owner), and apart from the architecture this probably doesn't compare well as a major historic location for an educational visit. Food in the tea shop is ok - not too pricey, however if visiting again in fine weather a picnic would be a great option. Hampton the resident cat was a bonus! Well worth a visit.

“Great day out”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

We had the joys of a garden fair with Morris and May pole dancing on the day we visited.
Along with spectacular gardens and house to visit as well, a great time was had by us all.

“Lovely for a afternoon”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

Took our grandchildren here, we had a lovely afternoon walking round the gardens, the children especially enjoyed going behind the waterfall and down the dark tunnell!
The castle itself is lovely shame more of it is not open.
On the minus side it was very expensive if you wanted to do the grounds and the castle, and there is only one cafe which is very busy long ques but food was nice.

“Attractive Gardens”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

Very pleasant way to spend and hour or two. Very attractive gardens, very well maintained by five full-time and two part-time gardners. The tea shop staff are very friendly and the home made cakes are delicious.

Plants and gifts are for sale in the small nursery and gift shop respectively. The prices (considering this is a tourist attraction) were so good we had to buy a plant and other goodies.

Well worth a visit - check the web site for guided tours times as we one one by ten minutes.
