“A wonderful atmospheric location with a warm and friendly welcome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2011

We stayed at Staunton House for 3 nights from June 24th-27th 2011. The B&B is in a wonderful location opposite the church in a quiet secluded village. The house itself is the former vicarage and has been lovingly maintained by the current owners Richard and Rosie Bowen. It retains many of the original Georgian architectural features and has a gracious dining room where breakfast and dinner is served.
We were made most welcome by Richard and Rosie (and their two dogs). The guest bedroom where we slept was of a good size with en suite facilities and a gorgeous view over the garden and fields beyond. The towels were most luxurious!
We were the only guests during that weekend and were served with a delicious meal on arrival on the Friday night - a chicken casserole followed by freshly picked strawberries and cream. Most of the vegetables and strawberries came from the Bowen's own vegetable gardens. After the meal coffee was served in their comfortably furnished drawing room. The traditional cooked breakfast was ample in portion size with fresh fruit and cereals also on offer.
Richard and Rosie could not have been more helpful and hospitable. They gave us a key so that we could have access during the day and waited up for us on the Sunday night as we returned late after a visit to relatives who lived locally. Our only regret was not being able to use the swimming pool - lack of time and rather cloudy and cool weather ruled it out. We shall certainly return to Staunton House on future visits to Herefordshire!

We found Staunton House on the internet when looking for a place to stay for a short anniversary get-away. We wanted to walk in the Herefordshire countryside and to attend some Leominster Festival events, but also be in a place where we could relax and feel welcomed as guests and not just ''customers'. Roger and Rosie were excellent hosts; we liked our bedroom and loved their early 19th Century house, a one-time vicarage, which they have furnished with period furnishings chosen with exqisite taste. Roger serves very good breakfasts which he obviously enjoys preparing and serving to his guests. He also advised us well for our route home, which took us through back lanes (and a walk) we would not have found otherwise. Staunton House was in all respects an ideal location.

My adult son & myself stayed here for 2 nights. Rosie & Richard were the wamest of hosts. The twin room with adjoining bathroom was excellent. The unusually interesting artefacts which are everywhere in the house reflect the distinctive lives the couple have led. There is so much on display everywhere that eating your tasty full English breakfast is an adventure. The grounds are extensive and well maintained. A lovely place to stay especially for over seas visitors who will enjoy a peep into a unique family history as well as benefitting from Richard's in-depth knowledge of Herefordshire.

Staunton House is a Georgian Vicarage that has been beautifully maintained both inside and out.Tthere is an outdoor swimming pool and tennis court and the three acre garden is a delight to explore, sit in or play with Bertie the friendly and lively black labarador. Our room was in its own wing, large bedroom and bathroom, which were clean and with a large comfortable bed. Clothes were stored in the wardrobe but there was still room for our own, although a few more hangers would have been useful, and plenty of drawer space.Breakfast was plentiful and tailored to need with delicious free range local eggs. Richard and Rosie proved to be delightful hosts who enjoyed a chat and were knowledgeable about this beautiful part of the country. the house is peaceful and quiet with excellent restaurants near by, you will need to book, and plenty to do.

The website shows two lovely en suite rooms so booked for ourselves & a widowed friend. Widowed friend was put in their sons bedroom whilst he was obviously away with all his stuff still in it. No en suite she had to share a shower room with another couple. Our room nice but the wardrobe & drawers were full of their clothes & things. Obviously selling their own private rooms when they can. Complimentary toiletries were half used & meager breakfast.

The guests were only here for one night. I explained that the second room was a single and not en-suite during booking. The price charged reflected this.
The complaints about a meagre breakfast are completely unjustified, as are the low ratings for cleanliness and service.
We have never had any complaints before.

We stayed 2 nights at this lovely house in the middle of the countryside. So quiet and peaceful yet within a short distance of good places to eat and explore. The owners are very helpful with many suggestions of how to see the best of the Hereford countryside on scenic routes!
