“Lovely old hotel with modern spa”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel, purchased on a KGB deal. What a lovely time we had. The hotel itself is full of old character, squeaky uneven floors and high ceilings. Our room was very large and spacious, lovely and clean with comfortable beds. We were shown all the facilities on arrival and made to feel really welcome. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and the meal was beautifully cooked. The second night we ate in the bar and again thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Breakfast each morning was freshly cooked and we could have as much tea and coffee as we wanted. The bar prices were reasonable and my husband really enjoyed the real ale on offer. An added bonus was the free use of the spa and its facilities which we used on arrival and the two following days. There was also free Wi-Fi for guests. All in all we had a lovely time and will certainly return.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back of the hotel and found it lovely a quiet

The Burton Hotel is a real country hotel, large rooms with high ceilings, uneven floors, full of character with the added bonus of a great spa and power showers. We stayed for two nights and had a really relaxing time, The breakfasts were substantial and very well cooked. Plenty of tea, coffee, toast, nothing was too much trouble. Met at reception by Jack who showed us the spa facilities, nice large pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. The pool is large enough to swim short lengths, towels provided, lots of loungers. The changing rooms are well equipped with hot showers, hair dryers, changing cubicles and bags to put your wet swimwear in.

We ate in the restaurant on one evening and the food was plentiful and the duck and sauce delicious. Not cooked pink but roasted with crispy skin, the portion size was so large I could not finish it all. The bar prices were extremely reasonable and the hotel seemed to be used by a lot of local people enjoying a drink so had a busy atmosphere. The only slight downside is the decor is a little dated, particularly the carpets, but that was really a small point, and I felt the upgraded shower and flat screen tv together with spotless bed linen made up for this. Lovely part of the country with good walks and Hereford within easy reach. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a short break at a very reasonable price.

Stayed here for a birthday weekend and wasn't quite sure what to expect however I was very pleasantly surprised. The place was spotlessly clean and the staff were lovely especially Krys who did the bar and also served breakfast - nothing was too much trouble for him and he is so friendly and polite. The breakfast was one of the best I have ever had at a hotel and I was very impressed that the hot food was freshly cooked and served on a hot plate. (I hate hot food served on cold plates) The bar meals and desserts were faultless and I highly recommend the steak and ale pie and sticky toffee pudding which was the best I have ever had. The pool area and gym were wonderful, although I didn't use the gym I went in the pool every day and had a sauna. Bonus was the large free car park and also the actual high st in Kington was so pretty and we had a couple of hours wandering round sampling the local pubs and shops - everyone was so friendly there. I highly recommend this place to stay.

We (4 adults) recently stayed on a KGB deal. Brilliant value for money. Often book these one/two night deals never sure what to expect. Family run hotel, great staff, clinically clean, well equipped bathroom, really comfortable bed.
Had booked months earlier so forgotten there was a pool/spa complex! Would have used it. Very old building with a lot of history, creaky floors etc. with a 21st century spa extension with LIFT!. Plentiful breakfasts, had dinner on one night, nicely cooked. A good quality 3 star privately run hotel which is becoming a rarity nowadays. Doing all the right things.
Large car park at rear with a lovely beer garden and crazy golf. Wonderful flowers outside in garden and on frontage. The friendly and helpful staff are the backbone of this hotel and deserving of much praise. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms in rear of hotel but no view.

We recently stayed two nights at the Burton on a KGB deal and were impressed by all aspects. The staff were welcoming and friendly, room clean and comfortable, plenty of parking and the pool at the spa very pleasant after a day exploring the lovely area around. We ate in the restaurant the first night and in the bar the second and enjoyed both meals. My husband especially enjoyed the real ale available in the bar (reasonably priced, too). The bar was nice and lively with a friendly atmosphere. We would certainly stay here again.

Went on a deal to this hotel. John the Proprietor came and greeted us on arrival.Like others we were shown the spa and swiming pool & gym facilites. Our room was very spacious, cleanand was nice to see a decent sized TV (not that we used it) and not one perched on the edge of a table.! this is for ladies really, I always take my "Old faithfull" hairdryer with me,( even though some hotels do supply them) and the bonus of this hotel, was that I could actually plug "Old Faithfull" in a socket right next to the dressing table and mirror, and not 5miles away from the mirror.!! The swiming pool also is a decent size, and not one that you do 5 strokes across and 5 strokes down.! the Gym looked excellent.so did the steam rooms. we had a meal in the evening there, again cannot fault anything. I must add, that 2 of my weakness,s are Creme Brulee and Sticky Toffee Pud. well I chose the Sticky Toffee Pud, oh boy, it was fab. the best I,ve had for say over 2years of tasting them in various establishments.! the sauce. oh was great. we then had coffee in their garden. I honestly cannot fault this hotel, in both service and facilities. it is a 3* hotel, and lives up to its grading. would recommend a stay here.

Room Tip: We had room no9, which had a four-poster in. it was spacious, and to be truthful, the only time i wo...

We stayed on a kgb deal. 26th. July the staff are very friendly the room was nice with a double bed. And a single bed the single bed was broken so I hope this as since been rectified the bathroom was lovely and clean and towels large and soft the evening meal which we booked for the fist night and which was supposed tobe on some sort of deal was dreadfuland we certainly. Didn't want a second evening meal there. Fish and chip shop near hotel was a second nights choice of meal and that meal was lovely breakfast was okay but I have had better but the young man who served us on the Sundays morning was very polite and welcoming.the spa pool and sauna jacuzzi were lovely although steam room wasn't in operation on our first day the bedroom floorboards are very squeaky and in fairness the hotel was noisy so sleep was broken if another kgb deal came up I may stay again but wouldn't be having evening meals.
