Reviewed October 21, 2012

We booked the Watermill Hotel for our wedding reception on the 12th October 2012, we cannot express our thanks enough on how fantastic our day was. The hotel management and staff were excellent not forgetting the chef!! The management team could not do enough to make our special day so special, with first class service throughout the day and evening. The grounds were a lovely setting for our phtotgraphs, and the reception room looked wonderful. The DJ selected by the hotel was also excellent and the dance floor was full all night. We have recevied positive feedback from our guests on how wonderful the hotel team were, right down to breakfast in the morning. We would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking to hold any type of function as you will be in the best of hands!

Room Tip: We had a superior room, however our guest had rooms all over the hotel with no complaints.

Stayed 2 nights on business - used to budget hotels - wouldnt stay here again. Room cold & bed very hard...little sleep. Noise from stairs door didnt help. Restaurant very nearly empty although car park busy...says it all. Menu limited for a vegetarian (Veg Curry or fish). Breakfast very average..but what exactly is in that, er, coffee??? At least the restaurant staff pleasant. Offered "interesting" idea of Malt Whisky at the bar...Jack Daniels??? Southern Comfort?? No thanks. John Smiths in dirty glass. Unwell for 2 days afterwards...you decide.

Room Tip: Try Premier

I booked into this hotel as part of a wedding party. I wanted to get ready there so I paid for the early booking in fee. I was going to be charged £30 another member of the wedding party was going to be charged £15? In their favour they made the adjustment to my bill without too much pushing.
The room it's self was clean and functional. Good flat screen television with plenty of channels. Tea and coffee were avaible in the room and a few biscuits too. On entering the room it was cold and I couldn't see how an air con unit. We worked out that you have to adjust the radiator and when it got going the room heated up and was warm. Some instructions would have been good.
We opted for the breakfast which was a buffet service. The food was hot and tasty. It would be nice if there had been a veggie sausage option but I understand that we can't all be catered for. The breakfast room it's self is quite small and I imagine when it's busy getting a table maybe quite tricky.
Overall not a bad place to stay for a night or so.

Stayed here two weeks ago in a large kingsize room, booked on a dinner rate so had the evening meal included into our room rate. The food selection off the riverside restaurant was great, had the steak and my wife had the chicken dish. To top off the meal the service in the restaurant was amazing, the waiter was spot on and even offered us the a bottle of red wine, which was perfect to go with our meal. We stayed over only by chance as we were too tired to drive, must say we choose only as we were passing through Hemel Hempstead.

Hemel is a new desitnation for me and being a BW points collector this fitted my needs. its a hotel with cahracter being a former watermill hence the name. Nice views to the rear with water flowing past the bedroom window if your on ground floor. Walkign over the old water wheel on the way to dinner or breakfast is also an eye catching feature. Parking is fine and free wifi is provided though this was a bit sporadic and slow on the whole. Freeview TV in the bedroom was only partly funtional with BBC not available but it worked ok and theres sky TV in the lounge for the footy. Service was perhaps the biggest highlight from reception to waiting staff; all were friendly and efficient. Rooms are perhaps a bit dated and lag behind the more modern feel of the public areas but room was clean and functional all the same. I had trouble with my radiator and the bath not draining though both were sorted after my report to reception on my return. Overall i might have gone for "good" as a rating but location and service just push it into very good

Room Tip: Probably asking about which rooms get the best wifi if this is critical to you

Stayed here several times now, personal and on business. Always very inviting at reception and prompt on service. Nothing is ever too much trouble attitude throughout the hotel and attentive at all times. Rooms are comfortable and a great location for the canal locks. Walk out of the hotel gate and not many yards away is a great little pub to sit outside and people watch.Well done we enjoyed our vist again and we will be back!
