Awesome atmosphere, really good food and service that makes the difference. And what about the prices! Really good value for money. Will eat there again for sure.

“not bad, but not good enough”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2011

Went with 4 friends for dinner. only 2 other tables in on the night so not much atmosphere.. Menu looked interesting enough.
I opted for the spinach and goat's cheese filo parcel to start and the braised lamb knuckle for main. Starter came up, not impressed. it was neither home made or in filo pastry but obviously bought in frozen, soggy in texture with a bland and tasteless filling and little or no goat's cheese. with an undressed or seasoned salad of limp leaves.
Main course was full of flavour and of a good portion size so made up for the sad starter.
Dinner plus drinks for 4 £91.00. You could eat alot better and more cheaply elseware in Hemel, but it depends on what you want.
Overall a let down but playing to the local market.

“Great atmosphere and great tasting food served with a smile”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2011

I first found out about this place in my local news. We went to check it out a few weeks ago, and loved it! Tonight was even better! Great entertainment (a belly dancer) i got called up and danced with her! The food is brilliant, i would highly reccomend the lamb chops. You can see them make the bread that you recieve as part of your starter.

The atmosphere is relativly quiet. But there were some people having a hen night made it a lot more noisey, but it adds to the atmosphere and is not the restaurant fault!

I would definately go there again because the food is lovely, the service is excelent and is very close to home

“A really different place to eat and enjoy yourselves.. well worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2011

We have been to Bar Nana on a number of occasions now and although it is relatively new addition to the Hemel Bar and restuarant scene we have always been pleasantly surprised!
The food and service have always been good - portion sizes are definately generous and the staff are always happy to explain what is in each dish etc in fact they couldnt be more accomodating and friendly!
Wine is very reasonably priced - House wine is c£10 a bottle and beers vary from around £3 to £4 per pint
There is generally some form of entertainment on a Friday and Saturday night and, on our last 2 visits we have been entertained by a Jazz quartet and a soul singer which has added to the enjoyment
Ive found it difficult to find a nice place to have a relaxing drink and something to eat in Hemel Town centre and we normally opt for The Old Town restaurants but this is definately well worth a visit and makes a welcome change to The Marchmont Arms / restuarants in the old town!

“Long Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2011

We went here from work for a leaving do one lunch time. We chose this place as it offers halal meat which meant that our Muslim colleagues could tuck in too! Beware the vegetarian menu is limited. Nothing is advertised as veggie and one of my colleagues opted for the okra stew which sounded safe enough until she asked what was in it and apparently the main component is lamb! The only veggie options were aubergine stew or a falafel wrap, as well as assorted hot and cold starters. We got a complimentary salad plate that was more than enough for 8 of us and was fresh and delicious. I chose chicken wings to start, again a good portion and very flavoursome. For mains I had the lamb knuckle stew and it was huge and very very tasty, it was served with plain rice and a bowl of seeds, nuts and dried fruit which was lovely. Unfortunately the falafel wrap didn't meet my coleagues expectations, it seemed to be a decent portion and served with pickled veg but was dry and rather flavourless according to them. The food took an age to appear which was a bad point on a working day on your lunch hour. The other main gripe was that we'd found some special offer menus for £9.95 for a starter, main and tea or coffee. When the bill eventually arrived we'd been charged for 9 of these, there were only 8 of us and only 7 eating, plus only 4 of us had opted to use this voucher. Round two out came the bill with 4 vouchers at £9.95 but then they had charged us for the food that was supposed to be part of the offer so for example I was charged £9.95, then separately for my starter and my main course! I ended up going in and handwriting exactly what the bill should be! In the end it was close enough but they were still unsure as to what they should be doing! We didn't even get our free tea or coffee but we did get a complimentary dish of small tasty pastry bites. The food was lovely, a good price but the service left a lot to be desired! I will go back but on my own time!
