Having spent the day at Harry Potters Studio in Leavesden we searched for a restaurant in the nearby area before we made the trip home... and what a find!! The staff were very helpful and made a table for 7 off us.. 4 adults and 3 children and then presented food which was beautiful!
Pad Thai and green curry our favourites... Now we know its there... we will be back!

Having seen the glowing reviews of this establishment, went along in some trepidation: would it live up to the pre-billing? Indeed it did, and in spades.
Having been to this location before in different restaurant guises, knew what to expect from the building: it's on a couple of levels, small and tightly packed. This means pre-booking is pretty essential, as about ten tables worth and it is full.
The welcome, service and general feel of the place was positive, friendly and efficient. Little touches, like the rolled hand towels in the toilets, night-lights on the stairs, excellent - though I'd have liked to see proper linen napkins on the tables rather than paper serviettes. Nothing was too much trouble. More crackers - no problem. Different sauce with this? Of course we can do that.
Most importantly, the dishes were superb: beautifully presented and delicious - the best Thai food I've eaten in this price bracket. Heat where there should be heat was fiery; subtle contrasts of flavours where there should be subtlety. And all this (our visit coincided with the Sunday/Monday night 'Gourmet Evening Special Offer') - starters, mains, sides, desserts, two drinks each - for just over £20 a head. (On the drinks side - the choice is a bit limited.)
Shall be returning; the Chiang Mai is brilliant value. Highly recommended.

We went on a Monday night when they offer a starter, main, rice or noodle, vegetable side and tea or coffee for £9.95, the same deal is available on Sunday. As Thai food in the UK is generally expensive this works out as a great deal although there are certain dishes on the menu (duck, king prawns etc) which carry a supplement. The drinks are a little expensive but with the money saved on the food it’s not really an issue as it’s still a good deal.

The portion sizes were fair, you’re not going to feel bloated by it but you won’t go home feeling starved either. The quality of the food was excellent and the staff were very welcoming and cheerful. The restaurant was almost full to capacity even on a Monday, probably with others like us attracted by the deal, so a reservation might be advisable. The large car park in the Old Town is free in the evenings and very close to the restaurant so convenient as well.

Well worth a visit, especially if you’ve had a bad start to the week and would prefer to eat some good food at a decent price rather than cooking dinner.
